Last Updated: Tuesday, 25 October 2005, 21:31 GMT 22:31 UK National TV Awards 2005 winners Doctor Who was the most successful show at this year's National Television Awards, with awards for most popular drama, actor and actress. ITV won six of the main awards in total, compared to the BBC's four and Channel 4's one prize.
The two special awards were shared between ITV and Channel 4.
The winners are as follows:

Most Popular Reality Programme Big Brother
Most Popular Drama Doctor Who

Most Popular Actor Christopher Eccleston, Doctor Who
Most Popular Actress Billie Piper, Doctor Who

They also beat Corrie for Actor and Actress. It wasn't as good as the original series but that still won awards, like the BBC's own backslapping exercise in 1996 to celebrate 60 years of BBC TV and beating EE! They were expecting it to be them and the lies people told saying fans fixed it by organising multiple voting when by the time the mags came out about it the votes were closed. Great day that. I still have it on tape. Pity we never saw the EE cast's face but Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy moaned about the Beeb not making it any more (especially Davison).
