A pretty good episode overall I thought - which did show us a new side to the Doctor. But again it was too short at 45 mins - an hour would have made it brilliant.
Sophia Myles was brilliant as Madam Pompy thingy, and I liked the way he jumped through her life like he did.
Mickey and Rose were good as well, and I liked the way that Mickey picked up on how the Doctor was feeling at the end. It is a pity that Madam thingy couldn't travel with them though.
Favourite scene had to be when she ran from Versailles into the spaceship, with her lovely dress on.
Anyone see RTD on DW:Confidental? He admitted the episodes he writes are constricted by budget concerns. That's his excuse anyway!

Really enjoyed last nights episode. I agree nice to see another side to the Doctor. Still not keen on Mickey travelling with them though.
I dont watch DW Confidential but thats an interesting point.

Haven't seen either yet.
Budget restrictions? Rubbish! The old series had them which is why story was key and effects weren't. This is the other way round with a massive budget.

I didn't realise that Sophia Myles was David Tennant's girlfriend.

Me neither sooty until I read it in one of the tv guides the other day. Apparently they first met on set.

I love the way that David Tennant is portraying Doctor Who, naughty, mischievous with a twinkle in his eyes, puts me in mind a bit of Tom Baker.

Never saw Tom Baker, but I agree Sooty I like the way David is playing him. IMO he is better than the previous actor

Seen it now and it was ridiculous. Not as bad as episode 1 or even episode 1 but pretty bad. Why were they targeting her? Why were the time thingies set every 5 years? And why at 2's and 7's in her age? Why was her portrait at the space station? Why was it even called the SS Madame de Pompadour? In the original series all this would be explained instead of having a throwaway line that they'll never know. This is one thing I hate about this series. I like a good story that has a beginning, middle, end and more importantly, explanations!

Interesting note about Sophia Myles and David Tennant. There was a fair bit of chemistry between the two of them wasn't there?
Back to RTD and here's an article from Digtal Spy:
Russell T Davies wished that he could have included a gay kiss in this year's series of Doctor Who, one of the show's stars has revealed.
Former Byker Grove actor and CBBC presenter Andrew Hayden-Smith appears in next week's episode as a preacher fighting against an evil industry.
"There's a line at the end that suggests my character is gay but it's not made clear," Smith told Wales on Sunday. "I think Russell was after a gay kiss but they couldn't push it that far! I was just pleased to work with Russell because I think he is great."
This is just another example of the agenda Russell has for the show - his own one. IMO DW is not the place for issues like this. The Doctor should be left celibate - not made into some sexed up time traveller having flings with men and women in every galaxy he visits. Sure his flirtations with SJ and Madam De Pomp. were good episodes, but there were no serious relationships - like the one they are hinting at with him and Rose.
I'm not homophobic or anything - I just don't want RTD's personal agendas ruining a good show!

I know what you mean. He already had Captain Jack kiss the Doctor in the last series. But it's not just his own agenda that's a problem here. It's also his arrogance. He acts like he created the show in the first place. He is just a fan writing fan fiction if you like while also ripping off the past. Nothing more. Before this he had bugger all experience of writing anything for DW, unlike the other writers who did the Big Finish and several books. If I remember rightly, RTD just had 1 book published.
Last night I finally got around to watching The Beginning box and although I hate the last 3 eps of An Unearthly Child, it's still miles better than this CGI-driven, plot hole filled, snoggathon that he's done.

Ironmen you mean? I haven't seen these Ironmen but it's certainly been commented on (even at Dimensions last November) that the design is very similar. From what I've seen in the trailer, I doubt they'll be that scary. The Tenth Planet ones were more scary with that cloth over their faces and enormous lamp on their heads. LOL! What is getting me about this one coming (apart from it seemingly a rip-off of The Invasion) is that having the baddie in a wheelchair reminds me of Davros.
I finished The Beginning box now and it was great, even Carole Ann Ford's atrocious acting in Edge of Destruction. Genesis of the Daleks once I've got through Blakes 7 series 4. They knew how to tell stories back then. The only thing I really like about the new series is the theme. Better than the 80s versions by miles. More like the original despite the Barry Letts Pertwee ending being added to the end of the opening music.
