I was bored to death! It comes to something when DWC is actually more entertaining. It was a shame Mark Gatiss' line with a nod to the 4th Doctor falling off the radio telescope was cut. Why? Isn't it supposed to be part of the same programme? They often made references to the past in the original.
Now what is it I'm reminded of where an evil being had been destroyed and wanted to take over a body? I keep thinking of Omega but I'm sure it's not that I'm reminded of.
"Feed me!" was taken straight from The Little Shop of Horrors.
I was also reminded of The Rocky Horror show with that climbing up the transmitter with the 'lightning' (as they called it) shooting out.
The faceless faces were like Sapphire & Steel Assignment 4.
The camera angles were driving me nuts. Also gave me a huge headache.
Anyone notice the reference to Corrie? Florizel Street? There was also a Rita and Betty. Maybe Bishop was a nod to Emily. LOL!
I'm seriously thinking of stopping watching because it's really getting awful. Worse than the 80s! It won't last 5 years at this rate.

Oh yeah. I'm also getting sick of the psychic paper. JNT got rid of the sonic screwdriver because he said it was far too easy for the Doctor to get out of situations with it. This is the trap they're falling into with this. It's better when he has to try and explain who he is and not get killed in the process.

. "Feed me!" was taken straight from The Little Shop of Horrors. Yes! That's true. I was also reminded of The Rocky Horror show with that climbing up the transmitter with the 'lightning' (as they called it) shooting out. Yep - they also nicked that! Anyone notice the reference to Corrie? Florizel Street? There was also a Rita and Betty. Maybe Bishop was a nod to Emily. LOL! Maybe because the episode was based around the coronation? There was also a reference to Magpie! Patsy

I was bored as well! I ended up coming on my PC with it on in the background! I noticed the mention of Florizel Street as well!

The faceless people reminded me of a series from years ago called 'Tales of Mystery and imagination' there was an episode about an old man in a library and when he turned round he had no face..that haunted my childhood..I wonder if Mark Gatiss saw that episode? when is the Doc going to land on an alien planet? ??

I didn't think it was too bad, but it still wasn't great. It reminded me a little bit of The Empty Child (again!) because of the facial problems the people suffer. And I wasn't too keen either of the Doctor's alpha male thing when he saw Rose without her face on! And the family, whatever they were called, were terrible. We didn't really get to know them and then they were all being destroyed. I do feel though that the whole thing would have been far better if the original script had been stuck to. And the line about falling off the transmitter should have been left in IMO. Sure most of the audience of today never saw it, but it would still give older viewers a thrill. Probably just a rule RTD has about HIS show. What did you think of RTD's words at the end of DWC - about the two friends travelling through time, having a right laugh - but because of this there is something lurking in the background waiting to make them pay?

By the way - why no reference to Mickey this episode? One plus point about the episode was Maureen Lipman!

It's that Gelth thing I was reminded of from The Unquiet Dead. Not the first time they've copied their own stuff from the last series. The trouble is (as I said last year) the length. Mark Gatiss has written many of the Big Finish audios which are in the old 25 min format going over 4 parts and they have been good. He can write for it but just not the TV series. And his Virgin novel, Nightshade, was one of the best. The series isn't working in this format. Even in the 80s when they experimented with 45 min eps they found it didn't work. But they were still 2 or 3 parts so there was proper characterisation and storytelling. This doesn't give you that. Even the 2-parters have major flaws. I am trying so hard to like it because as a fan I'm glad to have it back. But it's just getting worse. I think that's down to RTD. As Eithne said, HIS show. He should really decide whether he wants links to the past (eg Sarah and K9) or not. Because let's face it, he owes a lot to the original otherwise he wouldn't be where he is now and ruining it. I have to admit so far this series has been worse than not only many of the 80s stories but also The Web Planet which is one of the worst ever.
Pearly, I didn't notice the reference to Magpie. What was it?
Eithne, I turn my ears off when RTD speaks now because he's such a twat. LOL! Someone said about how the Doctor was grieving when Rose had her face sucked off and I thought, well the 4th Doctor believed Harry and Sarah were dead in Genesis of the Daleks because he'd sent them into the Kaled city and the Thal rocket was launched but just got on with it. He was melancholy but still had his mission for the Time Lords to destroy the Daleks. None of thet gung ho crap in yesterday's.
