Well this was actually good apart from the cliffhanger. They haven't worked out how to do them yet. Nice of RTD to virtually admit on DWC he'd ripped off The Sensorites idea. Now when's he going to admit to all the rest? His arrogance is getting worse and why isn't it down to the writer to create, describe and name monsters like it used to be? Why RTD? These were a cross between the Sensorites and Professor Zoidberg from Futurama! One peeve. The dead woman floating in space. She'd have exploded. It was also crap CGI. Good to see they had to use a quarry! About ruddy time. DW isn't DW without one. I disagree that they were scary when they got malevolent. We hadn't seen or learnt enough about them to really care (which is still a problem with this series). 9/10 Patsy

I enjoyed it this week, for the first time in a few weeks.

I also rather liked it. It was all very, very pacey and there were plenty of twists and turns. It was too obvious that the Ode's were going to turn against their masters and I didn't think the cliffhanger was shocking enough. One line could have done it all, with the captain of the ship saying:
"The gravity field is shutting down... Oh my god... We are going to be sucked into the black hole..."
On the whole the best episode in a long while. I'm glad that we all agree - for once!
I wonder what next weeks will be like?

LOL! Yes, for once. I have to say it's the episode I've enjoyed the most since it came back. They really do need to pay attention to the old eps when they're ripping them off to see how cliffhangers should be done. I agree with you, Eithne. One line would have been enough. But again they have too much happening in different places at once for ages. I hope next week's is just as good.

I aint much of a Dr Who fan, but like, this episode was pretty sweet. The ood's actually looked like proper aliens! I think this was a darn good ep. I mean, I totally loved how the all knowing doctor for once was stumped at what was going on. But yet still managed to shine some brilliance through when he worked out the power thingy. "It took us two years to figure that out" and the doc is like, "well, Im very good" LOL this was a sweet episode.

My friend up is Scotland emailed to say "Wasn't it the worst episode ever?" I haven't had tme to reply yet but I'll have to tell him a resounding no. But it is only the 2nd of this entire series I've actually enjoyed.

From CT Plus:
The overnight ratings for last night’s broadcast of ‘The Impossible Planet’ were 5.9 million. Doubtless inspired by the best weather most of the UK has had for a long time, these are the lowest overnight figures that the show has had since it returned in 2005. However, when viewed as a percentage of the available audience, the figures tell a different story. On this measure the episode had an average of just under 40% audience share which is very high, and amongst the best since the show returned in 2005! The significance of these figures is probably that Doctor Who has a strong ‘core’ audience that stayed in to watch the show. This should also be reflected in the final figures released in a week or so which will include the audience that recorded the show to view later, although the bureau (BARB) has recently reported issues with accurate measuring of Sky + viewers. Doctor Who’s position in the late spring/early summer schedules does not help the show and it will be interesting to see if this slot is also occupied with series 3 Recent press reports of BBC concern at a drop of in viewers for this series of Doctor Who would appear to be misplaced.

Usually the big flagship shows are started in the autumn and winter schedules

Yes. Remember the days the show started in January before JNT got his mitts on it?

The time of year the show is on at really puzzles me as well - because the ratings are likely to go down each week, especially this year since it is on until mid July.
We might be forced to wait until autumn 2007 if they change it from spring to autumn though - as filming only begins around late July.

They never used to be so behind with production to air in the old days. Now all the time is taken up with the CGI.
