Absolute crap. I switched off for the first time since the Davison era. RTD had done all that before with the Doctor obsessive in the very first episode. This was just expanded and again, no other Doctors included in all the sightings. I'm not even watching DWC because it'll just be an ego trip for RTD. "Isn't it genius? Isn't it marvellous?" I'll tape it because it's part of the series but I'll never watch it. My dad said tonight's ep will make people turn off.

LOl Eithne! Well I'll be interested in your thoughts when you have.
I couldn't help thinking it was a Torchwood try-out. And alredy I'm sick to death of that before it's even begun. I sent a text to a friend last said and she said she was taping it. I told her not to bother. Well she did and was as bored as I was. There's a comment on Teletext today saying it was rubbish too. It would be fine for a comedy drama but not sci-fi. No wonder they leaked Billie's departure. Bet the rest are all this weak. The problem is it's the same people writing. Even when you get someone new like that Matt Jones, RTD still has an input. In the old days people could sent unsolicited scripts and they may or may not have got accepted. There was variety. Some only wrote one story while others ended up writing many. But the script editor or producer never took complete charge. It was very rare there were any major changes to scripts. This is one reason I got fed up with Big Finish (the other being there were just far too many things a month coming out). Same writers all the time. Mind you, at least they were written better and Mark Gatiss did some crackers which he hasn't really in this.

I thought that was the worst episode I have seen.
It was boring, and it seemed to me to have been written around Peter kay.
I hope people who have never watched Doctor Who before, didn't watch that one..........because they would not watch again.

We have just watched the repeat on BBC3...what a load of pretentious drivel..where were the Doc and Rose.?.it just didn't feel like a Doctor Who episode..I hoped that when he saw the Doc as a child it would have been Peter Davison.
if that hasn't killed off the series then nothing will !!!
and why was he doing it as a video diary..if those things had happened to London..everyone would know about it
and you don't get many aliens from Bolton do you??

Yes, the Rose Show became The Peter Kay Show.
It was totally ridiculous and I agree with you, Nick. I wonder how many other people switched off like I did? But it certainly proves RTD is the wrong man for the job. His arrogance has overtaken sense. He should be replaced with someone who won't balls it up. First he was known as the man who brought back DW. Now he'll be known as the man who killed it, possibly for good this time.
45 min eps didn't work during Colin Baker's era and there was one 3-parter and the rest 2-parters. But even Timelash and The Twin Dilemma, not to mention the later Trial of a Time Lord, were miles better than this drivel and they were diabolical. I'd rather watch them than this and I never watch them.

Latest from CT Towers:
The overnight ratings for ‘Love and Monsters’ have been published. They show an improvement on ‘The Satan Pit’ in all areas. The actual number of viewers watching last night was 6.2 million, representing an increase of 0.7 million. The audience share, a more significant measure as it reflects how ‘Doctor Who’ performed against other channels in the same time slot, showed that Doctor Who was watched by an average of 38.3% of the total audience. Both these figures are good. The audience share shows that despite the recent drop off in the actual numbers of viewers watching, ‘Doctor Who’ is maintaining its strong position as an audience favourite. 6.2 million viewers is in itself a good result for any programme and given the onset of summer in the UK (at the moment at least!) with the arrival of clear skies and hot weather it is particularly good. The comparison with last year’s results shows that this series is holding up well. It should be remembered also that last week’s overnight results for ‘The Satan Pit’ whilst representing a low in terms of actual numbers (5.5 million) were still good for any TV programme on a main channel at this time of year. Recent press reports of a drop-off in Doctor Who’s popularity have no significant substance to them and would appear to be little more than a mis-interpretation of the viewing figures, or at the very least, a negative spin on the results. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we know why ratings went up, don't we?
1) Billie's going leaked
2) Peter Kay plugging
Let's see what happens this Saturday.

I am deeply divided by this episode - agreeing with much of what Patsy, Nick and Jez already said but also liking certain aspects of it. Marc Warren is a really good actor and I was happy to see him get a part in the series. I also liked his relationship with girl, and was kind of moved by the sadness of the situation at the end of the episode. And I disagree with Patsy on the LINDA issue - actually liking the group of quirky characters. They will probably be far better than any of the Torchwood gang.
But Peter Kay is a pet hate of mine, and I thought that his part was stupid. Stunt casting rarely, if ever, works on TV. With all his experience you would think that Mr EGO, RTD, would know that.
There was a good reason for leaving the Doctor and Rose out - that was due to the length of time the two of them were filming episodes 8 & 9. With a better actor and a better villian (maybe murdering the members of Linda?) as well as less of the video diary I think the episode would have been far, far better.
However, I actually thought Jackie was at the best she's ever been during the episode - showing what losing her daughter is doing to her.
Overall a very shaky episode:
- too aimed at the children, forgetting the adults - suffering from stunt casting and a rubbish villian - controlled too much by RTD
Probably 3/10 if I had to rate it.

Well 3/10 is an change! LOL! Peter Kay was a gimmick. Like the Daleks and Cybermen are. But that doesn't necessarily mean good stories even with them in. You only have to look at the 80s to see that. Though Earthshock and Remembrance of the Daleks are pretty good for the time. I was watching the 7-parter Inferno yesterday and went right through from start to finish, not being bored once. It is a bit repetitive but the alternate universe doing the same thing but about a day ahead makes it. Excellent writing and acting all round. Looks like eps 12 & 13 will be the Daleks and Cybermen according to one of the TV mags so that's a gimmick too. I actually enjoyed even the worst stories of last year far more than I have this year.
