I completely forgot that this was on today, but then was flicking through the channels and was surprised to see it. But I thought it was brilliant in comparison to the Runaway Bride on Christmas Day.
No plotholes, great acting, good special effects - what more could one want? It could easily have been an episode of the ordinary DW.
I also loved the various revelations made during the episode, such as there being a Mr. Smith (a computer) and the fact that she now has Sonic lipstick (a gift from the Doctor). Also K9 is now in either in Switzerland or outer space (not sure which) dealing with a man made black hole. Also we had Sarah Jane becoming a mother - which was great character development for her.
The child actors were also great, especially the girl who played Maria.
Definitely a 10/10 for this one-off pilot of the Sarah-Jane Adventures.

I quite agree. It wasn't half bad was it. It had a good storyline, the acting was good, and left me hoping for more.

My dad saw some and thought it was crap. And I had a phone call this morning from my Lis Sladen obsessed Scottish friend who moaned down my ear about how dire it was. I didn't see it. I didn't buy the Big Finish audios and had no intention of watching this as I was never keen on SJS. Now a series with Jo Grant or Leela and I would have.

Just got an email saying it got 2.9 million (18.7%) and was beaten by Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at 3.1 million. The children's audience was 0.4m with the rest adults/DW fans.

Surprisingly popular with the adults then. Maybe they won't bother with showing it on CBBC and will put it on Saturday nights instead, with so many adults watching. Makes sense, and it could be shown before Robin Hood starts again - in the autumn.

Perhaps. As SJS is THE favourite companion it's not surprising more adults watching. That and all the sad gits who fancy Lis.

Doctor Who monsters The Slitheen will make their comeback in a two part episode of new spin-off show The Sarah Jane Adventures, the BBC announced today.
The green, baby-faced foes with a flatulence problem will disguise themselves as teachers in a two-part story entitled 'Revenge of the Slitheen'. They will encounter The Doctor's former companion Sarah Jane Smith, played by Elisabeth Sladen, alongside her younger friends first seen in the pilot episode 'Invasion of the Bane', which was shown on January 1.
Written by Gareth Roberts, who penned recent Doctor Who episode 'The Shakespeare Code', the story will see the Slitheen make their first appearance since 'Boomtown' in the first season of the revived time-travelling show. They had previously made their debut in the 'Aliens of London/World War Three' two-parter, where the aliens from the planet Raxacoricofallapatorius took on the guise of politicians.
The Sarah Jane Adventures will be screened on BBC One and CBBC at the end of September and will run for ten episodes.

So it starts at the end of the month then.

More than likely. I got a promotional card from her today. Reckoned she'd only just found my enveloppe (sic). It had been so long since I sent her a get well card and told her misery guts had no right saying what he did to her about my own illness when it hadn't been diagnosed. I only remember that because I put it in my diary. LOL! Anyway I think she is going through all letters she ignored (and has admitted in the past she's lazy) and sending them out to get people to watch.

I'm watching the repeats, and I like it, but I can take it or leave it. I had to roll my eyes at the sonic lipstick and switching on the sun in the slitheen two parter though.
One thing that i keep thinking is that the teenager playing Luke don't half look like a young James Alexandrou (Martin in EastEnders) when he was that age!

From the Stage:
Published Monday 15 October 2007 at 13:05 by Harry Venning
A bit of a slow week for new drama and comedy in the evening schedules, so it’s off to the late afternoon CBBC slot to check out The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Sarah Jane is, of course, the former assistant to Doctor Who, as played by Elisabeth Sladen, and this is a spin-off of sorts. Only The Sarah Jane Adventures are much closer in spirit, budget and production values to Doctor Who, before the BBC decided to throw money, special effects and Russell T Davies at it.
So the effects are none too special, the rubber masks unconvincing and the locations unspectacular. I should also point out that the most horrific aspect of the episode I watched, Eye of the Gorgon, was the acting by some of the younger cast members.
But how can you not like a show that features an order of renegade nuns in league with an alien race of Gorgons? Students of classical mythology will remember that the Gorgons were snake-haired monsters whose gaze could turn people to stone or, in this particular cash-strapped case, fibreglass mouldings. Sarah Jane and her youthful companions have to thwart the nuns’ evil attempt at Gorgon trafficking which, inevitably, features one of those space/time continuum portals that Doctor Who finds so troublesome.
Quite why two strapping teenage lads should demurely surrender to a circle of unarmed nuns was something of a mystery, comparable to the nuns’ idiotic decision to then lock them in a cellar containing tools to aid their escape.
But this is no time to nit-pick - Sarah Jane has been captured and is about to become the host body to the Gorgons’ leader, unless someone can steal back the power-giving emerald amulet - you get the idea.
But one of the redeeming features of The Sarah Jane Adventures is that it takes itself and its storylines very seriously. Not even the merest hint of parody, which is as it should be. The other is Elisabeth Sladen, who is not only very good herself, but communicates her conviction so strongly that it infects the younger cast members around her. Plus Sladen looks great. Time has clearly been kind to her, both personally and professionally.

Absolutely no idea. Lis is at Dimensions next month (unless she pulls out). Maybe she'll know.

Must be doing well:
Elisabeth Sladen has revealed that plans are underway for a second season of The Sarah Jane Adventures, although the BBC has yet to formally commission one.
"I know that they're writing and planning it," Sladen told LastBroadcast.co.uk, "but as always with these things they've not had the green light yet, but it all looks very hopeful I think. [The BBC] seem pleased with how it's done - it's such a clever format."
Sladen also addressed the absence of K-9 in the The Sarah Jane Adventures, after the robot dog appeared alongside her in the Doctor Who episode 'School Reunion' last year: "I can understand why he's not in the series - he's a very inanimate object [and] there's not a lot you can do with him. I think if he was to be in the show he'd definitely have to have an update!"

There was meant to be a new K9 series a few years ago. They even drew up how he'd look and it was horrible.

No idea. I can't keep up. This other one was meant to have Tom Baker's involvement.
