More holes in the plot than Nottingham lace..why would a school have machine guns,Rifles and sand bags at the ready when the war hadn't even started
When The Doc and the Matron were having their heart to heart in the school...what were all the aliens doing outside..chatting over a cup of tea...?
Where were the police and the armed forces??
Why didn't the headlines of the newspapers report alien attacks ..it would have made far more sense if they had set in during WW I like the original story
load of schmaltzy shite

Well compared to earlier episodes it was top class, and brilliant acting (especially from DT and the actress playing the nurse) is able to smooth over the holes in the plot. I think the guns were in the school though as the headmaster had fought in a was before, and seemed rather military-tinged. And wasn't "learning to be a good soldier" on the curriculum at that time anyway?
Anyway, a most definite 8.5/10 for that episode.

I dont think you would ever shower it with compliments. Your original messages, shows that you probably thought out all those insults before the episode had even aired. It reeks of it.

I'm not psychic..how could I have thought them out before i saw it..?
if something is good then I say so..if I think (and it is only my opnion) something isn't as good as it could have been then i say that too...its called free speech
they leave far too many plot holes..I'll shower it with compliments when they fill those in

On Navigator of the Seas they had a British TV channel and were showing the Eccleston series. There were plot holes in that but at least the stories were better. I've taped this ep but considering the first part was b/s compared to the novel I'm not hopeful. Nick brought up good points, especially about the weapons in the school. Read the book, Yasmin (must be available on ebay or something). It was set in 1914 during WWI so the weapons made more sense. When Paul Cornell adapted it (badly) he changed the year not the setting which was a mistake.

The first world war was the first war where civilians were attacked by air raids etc...all previous wars had been all fought on battlefields like Waterloo etc so there would be no reason for a public school in the middle of England to have sandbags at the ready because they would not have known what was going to happen and certainly would not have been expecting bombs dropping from the sky from zeppelins
