Sam Tyler is The Master! That was about as gripping as greasy fingers. As for the writing for the Master.... Oh dear. And talk about nicking from the past: Master watching the Tellytubbies and thinking they're real - Master watching the Clangers in The Sea Devils Peoples of the Universe opener Logopolis The Doctor ages - The Leisure Hive Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. LOL! It was just soooooooooooooooo boring. John Simm is bad casting because he's too well known for another part which is still fresh in the mind and not malevolent enough. Even Geoffrey Beevers, the worst Master until now, was better than him. They should have gone for someone else rather than 'names' to get people watching. Shows how desperate the show's become. It really has got to the stage more during this series where we've seen it all before.

Have they actually seen any of the original series? Or are they new viewers like you were? It was worse then even the worst JNT era stories.

I think the thing that bugs me about DW now...is that in the old days when they were all over the place on alien planets etc..you had the feeling that that sort of thing could possibly be happenening in another time on another planet (you never know)...but with all these things happenening on Earth (London and Cardiff mainly) Downing street blowing up,mannequins coming to life,Daleks in Canary wharf,Spaceships landing in the Thames etc etc etc...you just know it isn't true...... why would the Master become Prime minister of the UK to seek World domination..he'd be much better off becoming president of the USA

Well using that argument the same would apply to most of the Pertwee era. Course the only difference between that and now is he was exiled to Earth and only left occasionally when the Time Lords decided to use him to do their dirty work. But again, even when there were Earthbound stories during the entire 26 years it often was outside London.
As we've seen in the past with superior stories, he doesn't need to become leader of anywhere. He'd just use those who were to get what he wanted.

I was never a dedicated viewer - probably only ever watched about 20% of the early years, so no expert.
That said, I really enjoyed Saturday's episode - I thought John Simm was excellent; just the sort of power-crazed villain the show needed; much more charismatic (IMO) than David Tennant, and a hell of a lot more entertaining.

Compared to the Master before, even in the dire McGann TV movie, this version was about as evil and scary as jelly.
Which stories have you seem Yasmin?

Personally I cant comment on this episode as I didnt watch, thought id just mention that lots of people on another board I visit said it was excellent. I gave up watching earlier in Series 3 as I was bored.

I can't wait for my next convention to find out how many who raved last year still do. There were already quite a few last year with the opinion it was rubbish.

And you pay money to go to these conventions?

Obviously. They'd hardly be free when the organisers have to pay for the guests and venue. It's no different from the Emmerdale Gala Weekend apart from more opportunity to meet the guests and cheaper.

I fail to understand why you pay to go to these conventions when you dont sound like much of a fan anymore.

Sorry but Dr Who is far more than just from 2005. Just because I and a lot of other people think this RTD stuff is complete rubbish doesn't make us less of a fan of the series. There were crap stories in the original series but even they were better than this. It doesn't work in the format it's in. They tried it in 1985 and it was a disaster.
