From Digital SpyNeighbours star Pippa Black has admitted that she wasn't a fan of the Australian soap's shift to sensationalised storylines. Producers promised that the show would go back to its roots in March this year, following weeks of low viewing figures in Australia. The changes will be seen on Oz screens over the next few weeks, and Pippa, better known as Elle Robinson, has explained that it is a relief to be performing in more realistic scenes. "There have been explosions and a lot of big bangs - I guess it had taken a somewhat fanciful direction," Pippa told the Herald Sun. "Things were happening so quickly, stories began and finished in an episode. It's exciting to be doing some more realistic stories. It's still a soap opera, it's still entertaining every night. But the stories will be more believable." It will be interesting to see if Neighbours, getting back to it's roots, works.

I hope so. People must be getting sick of sensationalism. They've all done everything so why bother?

I think it will work. Neighbours was always better in the early days.

So were a lot of them. It's the sensationalism which ruins them as they all have to go one better than their rivals.

Characters had more depth and were better written for. It's no wonder viewers considered them friends, especially the elderly and lonely. You didn't need nastiness down your throat to know someone was bad. It was all in the writing and more subtle. People could be bitchy and it was entertaining. Now there's so many similar characters and storylines it all gets boring. I hope Neighbours does a better job than Brookside of returning to its roots. Brookie was too late.

Latest news on the re-vamp from Digital Spy.
More than 1 million Australian viewers tuned in to Network Ten for a first look at the revamped Neighbours yesterday.
Monday evening's episode - which featured new credits, a new theme tune and a change to HD filming - pulled in an average of 1.05 million viewers in the 6.30pm slot. It is the first time that the soap's viewing figures have topped 1 million this year; just a few months ago, it was pulling in fewer than 700,000 viewers.
The episode saw Rosie and Frazer tying the knot and also introduced viewers to Ned Parker's relatives.
Further changes will be rolled out over the coming months, including a shift back to "realistic" storylines.

I reckon everone will tune in to watch the first couple to see how different it is. As you say what about the rest of the week, it will be interesting to see the viewing figures after a couple of weeks or so.

Hopefully they will have found their feet again. Then it goes to channel 5 and into obscurity here. LOL!

It will be interesting to see how the ratings go after a few weeks, but hitting the 1m mark is a good one for the first episode of this "new" Neighbours.

It is daft at the moment. I mean, who cares about Carmella's taking too many drugs to stop her being depressed? I'm hoping she'll overdose and die she's that irritating.

Carmella was irritating me in yesterdays episode too. How Oliver puts up with her I dont know - he deserves better.
