from www.digitalspy.co.uk 'Neighbours' takes Five News slot Monday, January 21 2008, 15:08 GMT By James Welsh, International Editor Neighbours will air at 5:30pm when it starts on Five on February 11. Five's news bulletin will move 30 minutes earlier to 5pm to allow Neighbours to lead in to Home and Away at 6pm. A lunchtime Aussie block will also be created, with Neighbours airing at 1:45pm before Home and Away at 2:15. Other scheduling plans confirmed today include a Neighbours omnibus starting at 12:30pm on Saturdays on Five and repeating on Five Life on Sundays. The soap currently airs at 2:10pm and 5:35pm on BBC One. _____________ Well it looks like it will be keeping almost identical slots that the BBC had. Surprised it doesnt appear to be getting "first look" episodes on Five Life like H&A does though. Also it will be getting an omnibus on Five not just Five life like H&A - i get the feeling Neighbours will become the more important of the 2 aussie soaps.

I see they have been promoting Neighbours a lot this week on Five and Five Life - particularly around Home and Away.

That promo is driving me mad. From 11th Feb on BBC1, Doctors will move timeslot by 5 minutes airing from 1:45pm until 2:15pm. Doctors will be followed by Australian medical drama All Saints

You wont need to bother turning over now Nick!
It really will be the end of an era though - ive watched Neighbours (on and off, mostly on) for 20 years on BBC1. Only Corrie have I watched for longer.

I used to love Neighbours and watched it from when it started till about..ooh I can't remember...... I remember Toady coming into the series..and I remember Harold and Madge coming back..so I think I must have stopped when Madge died and none of her children could be bothered to come to her funeral
and we used to watch Home & Away till it moved to 5 and it was off air for a year..we just gave up on it

So did I but it went from cheesy to more cheesy by the end. Now worse than Corrie's live 40th anniversary ep about those bloody cobbles and the clichéd speech by Ken at the end.

Well I started watching Neighbours in early 1988 when it moved to 5.35pm (up until then it was on just lunchtimes with a morning repeat the next day). My mum was a fan so I watched it with her. I gave up on it in the Mid 1990s when I got bored but went back in 1997 when Madge came back, also gave up again in 2005 but went back just over a year ago. So ive watched it for most of its run.
I miss the old days with Jim, Helen, Daphne, Charlene and Mrs Mangel!

yes it was good then Jez...when Daphne gave birth by the lake without removing her tights..and Henry always seemed to end up running around the close naked for one reason or another... lol

All this talk of Neighbours classic era has led me to getting the Neighbours defining moments dvd. I watched Des and Daphne's wedding and Daphne giving birth last night. I didnt so much fancy Henry but Danny Ramsay - although going by his appearance in the 20th anniversary thing he hasnt aged well.

Well at least there is a silver lining to this dark cloud:
The fact that the BBC hasn't told Five to stop broadcasting Neighbours until a year has past like what happened with H&A.
So that means that we finish watching Neighbours Friday 08/02/2008 on BBC at 17.35 then come Monday 11/02/2008 it will air where it left off from Friday but on Five instead and for the first time in it's entire 20 + UK broadcasting years it will have an advert break in the middle of it.
It will seem weird having an advert break in the middle of Neighbours but that is why it starts at 17.30 to allow for the 5 minute advert break.

That was just silly when ITV lost H&A. So many people stopped watching for one reason or another.
I agree it will seem weird after all these years. Still one break is better than the two in Australia. I wonder if five will have the 'coming soon' bit just before the credits the BBC cut out? I also wonder if the original Australian end credits? I was surprised we had different when we caught up with 2006. The only bit included was the blue background.

So the very last episode on BBC1 ended with Dullmella of all people!

I meant, of course, the previous end credits which were different to Australia's. LOL!
I noticed that. Dullmella's bad acting.
Did the Beeb say anything? They didn't before the lunchtime showing. I loved the penguins on the ice and was expecting them to say the last Neighbours on there.

In Wales the announcer just said The Weakest Link would be on Monday at 5.15pm.

No idea if the BBC Wales announcers follow the same script as the other nations. Over on ITV we get the same announcer as England here in Wales, however if there is a regional programme they have to record an extra announcement. BBC is actually more regional than ITV now in Wales.
