Our six Classic ITV Special Stamps celebrate the 50th anniversary of Independent Television broadcasting. The issue features some of Britain’s favourite programmes, including cult classic The Avengers, high-brow drama Inspector Morse, and the unforgettable ‘70s comedy Rising Damp. The First Class stamp features Emmerdale, voted as Britain’s favourite ITV soap opera by the public. Each stamp was designed by Kate Stephens and shows an image from the programme’s opening sequence.

Tallents House, Edinburgh Postmark
A pictorial postmark from Royal Mail Tallents House, 21 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9PB will be used for the issue. The reference number for the Tallents House, Edinburgh pictorial postmark is as follows:
First day of issue: Tallents House, Edinburgh Ref No FD 05 21
Alternative Postmarks
As an alternative to the Tallents House, Edinburgh postmark, pictorial and non-pictorial, LONDON SE19 postmarks will also be available for this issue.
Classic ITV is the full title of the 15 September 2005 issue and LONDON SE19 was chosen as the postmark because Beulah Hill SE19 was the site of the first ITV transmitter.
All first-day-of-issue postmarking offices will be supplied with the alternative pictorial first-day-of-issue postmark. This will mean that all first day covers posted at the Post Office® counter will be cancelled with the same pictorial postmark regardless of where they are posted.
