Bob's meddling ex-wife joins 'Emmerdale'

Susan Penhaligon has joined the cast of Emmerdale in the role of Bob Hope's meddling ex-wife Jean.

The acclaimed actress, who has starred in comedy series A Fine Romance and drama A Bouquet of Barbed Wire, begins filming next week. Jean will be seen on screen from February in time for Bob's impending wedding to Viv.

"There are some fantastic storylines coming up next year surrounding the Hope family and we are delighted to welcome Susan to the cast," said series producer Kath Beedles.

Outgoing Hollyoaks actor Alex Carter was recently cast as Bob's son Jamie.

Now I'm confused here. Jean's already been seen. And Sharon Marshall said last week on TM Julie Dawn Cole had joined as Bob's ex-wife.

Checked up and Julie Higginson played Jean when she appeared before.

The mystery deepens, eh? He does have three (well four if you include Viv) ex-wives so maybe the names could be wrong.

I don't think Sharon Marshall gave a name. Just his ex-wife. Course she has got things wrong before despite working for Granada (and often, like Tina Baker, gets stuff out of the papers) so I wouldn't be surprised if she has this time.
