Six Emmerdale characters could be killed off as part of a huge storyline this summer.

Producers are hoping that an explosion at the grand opening of the King brothers' new housing development will pull in viewers.

"The explosion will be one of this year's biggest storylines. Viewers will be hooked," a source told the Sunday Mirror. "Writers were told to devise a way of getting rid of six stars who are a bit stale. But bosses will pick the victims very carefully - two are definitely out."

Another insider added, "Not all the actors know their fate. New characters are worried as they haven't had the chance to develop. It has caused a lot of tension on set. But bosses are convinced the show will be a ratings winner."

Lets hope Scott is one of them. ;D

I agree about Scott I can hardly understand his accent,I hope Jean goes if she is still in when the cull happens also Noreen.I hope they keep Viv and Bob in.

I`ll miss Simon, but can`t say he`s had much of a storyline, and I don`t think I`ll miss his mum much at all. who else is going? any of the rather large Dingle Clan? Valda

I like Simon but agree he hasn't done much lately. Don't like his mum at all. It's a pity they never married him and Nicola off instead of doing everythinbg they could to keep them single.

Seven Emmerdale characters are to leave this year as part of a major cast shakeup.

Sherrie Hewson and Dale Meeks, who play Lesley and Simon Meredith, have been confirmed as the first two to go.

"I've had a great time on Emmerdale but it's time to move on," said Hewson, who is leaving by mutual agreement. "I'm about to start the next series of Loose Women and am looking forward to moving on to other projects."

Meeks, whose on-screen fiancée Nicola Blackstock (Nicola Wheeler) leaves next month, said: "It's been an amazing two-and-a-half years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I am so grateful to Emmerdale for giving me such a fantastic opportunity - Simon has been a great character to play."

Both characters will leave the soap this summer but neither will be killed off, leaving the door open for a return in the future.

Interesting that these two aren't being killed off. I won't really miss them though, as they aren't great characters really - due to a lack of interesting storylines. Simon and Nicola have just went around in circles.

I think one of the newspapers had this in as well, and it said in there that Rodney, Kelly and Ivan were also names being considered for the chop.

Ivan I don`t think would be missed by anyone apart from Nicola and Paul, like Simon he hasn`t had much of a storyline has he?. Rodney I`d miss but he`s not had much to do lately, Kelly I doubt if they will write her out much as I`d like them too. Dawn I`d miss if they write her out they`ll have to write out T. J maybe Terry too. Adam,Norreen and Danny I haven`t seen much of them. what are they trying to do start emmerdale with a new cast or something?

I'd like to see Ivan stay though - as he is the first proper bisexual character in soap, and it would be nice to use that for some good storylines. Danny would also be a fairly decent character if they gave him something to do.

valda: The powers at Emmerdale aren't trying to restart the show with a new cast - just get good ratings for one or two episodes - a stunt at the expense of a few actors and actresses.

According to the paper today Sadie is being killed off in a car crash.Cain is involved and is also leaving.I would like Cain to stay.

I don't want Cain to leave He is a good 'baddie' )
There are others I would rather see depart.

I like Cain even though as a baddie he give`s me the shiver`s, yes I agree there are other`s who could depart for me and I wouldn`t miss them one bit. get rid of Louise`s health concious Boyfriend for a start, get Louise to throw his exercise bike around his neck that would kill him off .
