Current schedules have Emmerdale going head to head with Doctor Who on Christmas Day at 7pm for the whole hour.
The BBC might have avoided clashing Corrie and EE however they seem to have brought out their other big guns to fight Corrie and Emmerdale.
EastEnders kicks the night off on BBC 1 at 6:30 then Doctor Who at 7pm, Strictly Come Dancing (which is popular although not my cup of tea) up against Corrie at 8 then EastEnders at 9. And of course it is a big night for EE with the departure of Pauline.
If these schedules remain this year's ratings war is going to be interesting. Will people if stuck on BBC1 bother to turn over to Emmerdale or even Corrie? Emmerdale might have its big murder mystery but let's face it the stories are so slow moving these days you will easily be able to catch up on Boxing Day. It is only on Boxing Day that that the story really starts to play out in the hunt for the killer and I personally am bored already so I don't think I will be tuning in.
Schedules could still be subject to change but let's start taking bets now who will win this year's ratings war.

I agree, BBC1 will win.

BBC1 always win don't they? I'll probably be flicking between ITV1 and BBC1 at 6.59pm on Christmas Day seeing which show starts first, so that is likely to be which I'll stick with. Emmerdale is repeated so much these days on the likes of ITV2 that it will be easy to catch anyway, where as DW isn't repeated near as much.

I predict ITV will start Emmerdale slightly before 7pm so as to stop people switching to Doctor Who. Therefore Corrie will probabaly start slightly earlier too or at least at 8pm on the dot!

Be very unusual for ITV1 to do - they are usually (well always!) late with their programmes as adverts are more important than starting on time.

Except when EE isn't on or Champions League is on a Tuesday.

They do start early sometimes. Like Patsy says when EE isnt on - e.g. tonights episode started just before 7.30pm and we went to the break before 7.40pm.
On Mondays the 8.30pm episode also sometimes starts at 8.29pm!

Only if you like her and there seems to be a large cross-section on Teletext and Ceefax who don't. I didn't even know who she was at the end of the last ep.

If you go by her fanbase by how many people like her on ceefax/teletext, it certainly doesn't match the critical success, acclaim, peer resect and up to nearly five million viewers every week on BBC2 for her show. She is one of the biggest success stories in entertainment right now.
Ceefax/Teletext very rarely post nice messages.

If she's so famous it doesn't explain how I didn't know who she was. I expect a lot of people don't either.

She's a success. It doesn't have to come with fame.
She's part of popular culture now. If you haven't heard the "Am I bovvered" phrase, you surely must have been living underground.

I've heard of the Catherine Tate show but no idea who she is if she was on the box in anyting else or passing down the street but I am aware she has some kind of status.

Catherine Tate is not to my tastes I must admit. Christmas television has been dire for years but I think this year it is worse than ever. I can't find a single thing even on satellite worth watching. My husband was looking forward some old classic dramas on ITV3 like last year however all they appear to be showing for about two to 3 days straight is The Two Ronnies.
I will record or watch Doctor Who on Christmas Day itself but that is it. I hope the Discovery channels have something to offer otherwise DVDS, VH1 classics and bed.

dont know what channel will come out on top but i for one will be watching emmerdale, i will probably record doctor who and the second eastenders because of doc martin, for me this doctor who is it's last chance because i doubt it will be any good after the departure of Billie Piper.

It survived the comings and goings of Doctors and companions for 26 years. Billie Piper's departure won't make any difference if the writing is good enough to make it survive (though it will never last another 26 years years). Bonnie Langford was universally hated but the series still held it's own up against Corrie, even with some of the crappest stories ever, when the BBC were planning to axe it originally.

That's not difficult, Yasmin, when it hadn't been on for a generation. Although there have always been lots of kids at conventions during the hiatus who watched the original series on UK Gold. Patsy
