(for me) ...well, very soon I suspect. Haven't watched a complete episode for a couple of weeks now, and reading some of the upcoming spoilers (jewel heist etc, more Marlon/Eli/Donna cr@p, ditto Diane/Billy), I can see an extra half an hour's free time appearing in my evenings. Prime example of the sheer drivel they're now churning out was the webcam stuff with Viv earlier this week - it was all so embarrassingly awful I left the room. ...and to think that Emmerdale was (once) the only soap I watched.

blackcatz, I don't suppose you'll be the only one. Still being wirelessless and stuck away from the TV I have only caught a few bits since Sunday last week and haven't missed it at all. I think they fact they're having yet another disaster (yawn!) shows even though know how dire it is and are desperate to boost ratings. Maybe once Kathleen Beedles has gone it will improve and stop being so damn boring and stupid.

One can only hope - there is still the odd glimmer left of what is/was good about Emm, but they're few and far between, and not enough of them (at the moment) to keep me watching.
The scenery and sets are still there thankfully, and one or two (fairly) interesting characters, but it needs a strong hand and a major, major rethink before it returns to a decent level of 'watchability'.

I totally agree. It's turned into a teen show really although the oldies do get more to do than in Corrie. Still not writing well for them though. When you stop caring about the characters they're in big trouble.

The only thing that keeps me interested at the moment is the Perdy/Rosemary story and how the Perdy/Matthew relationship pans out.
The thing that makes me want to turn off most is any scene with the loathesome Eli in it.

And Rosemary is going soon while Eli looks like a permanant fixture.

I agree sooty - he really is a very nasty piece of work, tho' I find it hard to believe that anyone would treat a brother the way he treats Marlon, and that Marlon would be dumb enough to put up with it.

Marlon always was dumb though.

I havent watched Emmerdale for well over a year now apart from the odd episode over last Christmas. I got so bored of it and as its on 6 a week it was just 1 episode too many really.

5 is bad enough though when they haven't got enough material. Corrie's struggling if it has to rehash Alan Bradley.

Yeah 5 is too much but its more manageable than 6 - and at least Corrie is spread out and not on every single day in a row (apart from Saturday)

It wont be. Corrie have only had 1 extra episode this year and that was on 12th January when Tracy killed Charlie so they had a 2 parter on the Friday. At least they have cut back on all the extra episodes like when they had 8 in one week in 2004, and 6 several times during 2005 and 2006.

Ah but the rugby world cup's coming up in a few weeks so it's going all weird again. So far none brought forward but I do hope they are dropping a few.

It really would make a change. If Michael Grade wants ITV back to the way it used to be when it was good he should order a reduction pronto.

My feelings too Patsy - cut Corrie and Emm down to 3 eps per week (I wouldn't even complain if it went down to two!), and I'm sure we'd see a marked improvement in quality overnight, particularly in Emm, which seems to have suffered worst of all since they kicked off the over-scheduling.

Me neither, blakcatz. Three at a push but two is better. Five and six is taking the pee. Too many characters, not enough storylines. I actually prefer the old days of the soaps when even a simple conversation between characters or a character just going about their every day business was more entertaining that the sensationalist claptrap we get today.
