From Digital SpyVeteran Emmerdale star Clive Hornby has been forced to take a break from the soap due to ill health. According to The Mirror, the 63-year-old is fighting an unnamed illness which could threaten his future on the ITV1 show. Hornby is Emmerdale's longest-serving cast member after making his first appearance as Jack Sugden 28 years ago. He recently insisted that he loved the programme and had no plans to retire, saying: "I can't believe I'm still here sometimes. Some of the kids in the show weren't even born when I started. "I can't imagine leaving - it would be the death of me, that. I'm happy to be doing it as long as they want me doing it." A show spokesman said: "We can confirm that Clive is unwell but fully intends to return to work." Hornby has filmed episodes to be broadcast up to mid-February. Poor bloke. I hope it's nothing serious

I hope the docs find out what`s wrong with him soon. Emmerdale wouldn`t be the same without him

According to Teletext's Showbiz Spy Clive won't be returning due to his illness. Must be serious if true.

The poor bloke. I hope and pray its not cancer. I would rather Clive stay away from Emmerdale for good and retire permanantly than him working so his health suffers. (if that makes any sense?) We`ll be praying for you Clive

I can't help wondering if it is cancer and I'm sure that's crossed other people's minds too.

Yes. Normally they would take time out for treatment. But IF he's not returning, I dread to think how bad it could be.

From Teletext TV News:
Clive will make soap return Emmerdale bosses have hit back at a report that star Clive Hornby will "definitely not" be returning to the ITV1 soap.
They insist the 63-year-old actor, who has played Jack Sugden for 28 years, "fully intends to return to work" once he's recovered from an illness.
Hornby had to stop filming in January because of health problems. He was last seen in the soap in February. Hornby is visiting his mum Annie in Spain.

Shouldn't that say Jack? I don't know. I'd like to believe he will but it was Teletext who reported he wouldn't. Maybe they're playing it by ear. Patsy

I was thinking about this this morning. It's been three months now so must be serious. Could ITV be denying it to try and prevent the press from digging, as they would if he left because of whatever it is?

This seems to be the latest from The Yorkshire Evening Post. The producer also cleared up gossip about long-serving actor Clive Hornby (Jack Sugden), who is currently on long-term sick leave. According to rumours, the 63-year-old will not return to the show, but Anita said: "I am constantly talking to him about whether he might come back. "He's still poorly, bless his socks, but those negotiations are still very much alive." This does not sound very hopeful to me. If he doesn't return that means for the first time ( apart from the dreadful Victoria ) there won't be a Sugden in the soap. I am not counting Andy....because he isn't one

If he was definitely returning, why would there be negotiations going on? That's contradicted ITV's denial he wasn't returning. It must be really serious to be so long.

I haven't heard anything since ITV's last statement, and that didn't really say that much.
It seems everyone is keeping quiet over what is wrong with him which is a bit of a worry.
The actor who plays Alan Turner suffers from Leukemia, but they are very open about that.
