Here are some detailed H&A spoilers.
Monday, January 8 2007
Jack and Rice are reeling from the discovery that the hair found at the crime scene matches the DNA of Peter Baker. Jack insists it can’t be right, considering he has Peter’s liver, so therefore the only logical explanation is that someone is trying to frame a dead man – but why? Adams comes off the phone from Jimmy at forensics with the news that the evidence (piece of Peter’s hair) found at the Bob Radcliffe crime scene some months ago has been checked out by someone posing as a police officer. But Jack is stunned when Adam’s reveals this person’s name is Dave Elder…uh-oh…could the fire man be the pyro?
Dave is hauled into the station for questioning but he remains adamant he knows nothing. Dave angrily defends himself and insists that whoever is trying to frame Drew is now trying to frame him as well. Jimmy from forensics is brought in to identify the man posing as a police officer, but from the line up, Dave is not identified. Jack and McGrath are thrown – if it’s not Dave then who could it be? Jimmy sifts through police records in an attempt to identify the man they are searching for. Suddenly, he is distracted by a picture on the wall of Constable Evan Rice receiving a bravery medal. To everyone’s shock, Jimmy announces he is the guy they are looking for. Oh my god - Rice is the pyromaniac?!
The search is on to find Evan Rice, who has done a runner from the station. Jack and McGrath, who are still astonished are slowly piecing together the clues. Meanwhile, Rice is frantically packing up his belongings back at home, knowing full well he is about to busted. Jack and McGrath pull up out the front of Rice’s apartment and approach with caution. When there is no answer at the door, they barge in, but much to their frustration, Rice has escaped! Jack and McGrath search through the apartment and find kero and photos of Drew – it’s the last nail in the coffin for Rice. At that moment, a call comes through on the radio – Rice’s vehicle has been spotted. Eventually, the officers catch up with Rice after a speeding car chase. Rice panics and flees from his car but the others are on to him quickly and bring him to the ground. The game is over and Rice is well and truly busted now!
At the station, Rice is being interrogated, at first, he is reluctant to speak but eventually he agrees to do so, on the proviso they will protect him. Jack and McGrath are curious – who does he need protecting from? The mystery thickens as Rice explains he was forced to frame Drew for the fires and if he didn’t abide by their demands, then his life would be over. Rice is charged with arson and accepting bribes. Jack makes one final plea to Rice for names of who has been behind all of this. Rice remains tight lipped but issues the final chilling statement that Drew is in more danger than anyone could possibly imagine!
Drew approaches Lucas, who has just emerged from the surf. Dean passes by and overhears the other two talking about him. Dean cuts in and warns them to mind their own business. Lucas is suspicious that Dean may have something to do with trying to frame Drew – after all, he’s obviously hiding something. Drew takes this in thoughtfully and moves off on a mission to find out more. Later, Drew catches up with Lucas to deliver the news he’s found some major dirt on Dean. Apparently, he was expelled from his last school for setting the principal’s car alight. Lucas is stunned that Dean has a history of lighting fires and Drew begins to wonder if Lucas has been right all along. But what will they do now? Lucas and Drew are later confronted by Dean and much to their surprise, Dean reveals that the pyro has been caught. Drew is confused as to why Rice would want to frame him but is oblivious to the true danger that is lurking…
…It’s getting late and Drew is on his way home in the dark. Suddenly, someone rushes up behind him and clobbers him over the head, knocking him out cold. Drew lay on the ground – dead still….will he survive??

And sure enough, the guy in question is in the Diner on a phone call – Dean is agitated as he tells the person on the other end that he cares about Matilda and doesn’t want her getting caught in the crossfire. What secret is Dean hiding?
Back at the station, Jack gathers up his things and gets ready to head home. He mentions he will investigate any grudges Dean may have against Drew. Suddenly, Jack realises what time it is and his heart sinks – he’s missed dinner again… He tentatively arrives home and as expected, Martha is far from impressed. Martha doesn’t want to hear his excuses and it’s clear he’s well and truly in the dog house! Things are still frosty the next morning and Jack knows he has to work hard to make things up to Martha. Despite Amanda’s protests, Drew gets stuck into her gardening. Amanda later spots Drew working up a sweat with his shirt off and moves over to comment on his physique. It’s all innocent from Amanda’s point of view but Drew becomes completely flustered. Suddenly, he becomes dizzy and stumbles off the ladder. Amanda assists him to sit down, but again, when she touches Drew, he pulls away. Amanda wants to know if something is wrong. After much persuasion, Drew decides to bite the bullet and admits he can’t get her out of his mind – he’s completely attracted to her. Amanda is absolutely stunned!

Lucas arrives home, still stunned after seeing Gareth and Dean, he knocks on Maddie’s door – she’s still annoyed following their earlier confrontation and he knows he must tread very carefully so he declares he’s got something really important to tell her. Matilda guesses it has to do with Dean again and immediately goes into shutdown mode. Lucas is just about to spill the beans when Dean arrives and plants a big kiss on Matilda. Lucas is completely at a loss – the nerve of this guy is unbelievable! Matilda moves off to the bathroom and Lucas launches into attack. Dean is completely thrown when Lucas reveals he saw him kissing another guy. Dean tries to cover by suggesting Gareth has a crush on him and won’t leave him alone. Dean reiterates he isn’t gay and questions why Lucas would want to hurt Matilda by telling her a stack of lies. Dean leaves and Lucas makes the decision to bite the bullet. Matilda is utterly shocked when Lucas reaccounts what he saw and suggests that Dean is gay. Matilda is confused as to what to believe but is willing to give Dean the benefit of the doubt. It becomes clear, that Dean’s problems are not what he’d have everyone believe. Matilda is waiting when Dean comes out of the interview room. He is quick to insist there is nothing wrong but Matilda is curious – why would Dean have dealings with the police? Lucas arrives home and discovers the couple canoodling on the lounge and it is clear Matilda has fallen for Dean’s lies - hook, line and sinker. Lucas is absolutely furious!
Amanda is still overcoming her shock from Drew’s revelation that he is attracted to her. Amanda insists it’s all just in his mind and it’s crazy he feels this way. Especially since he’s with Belle. When Drew begins to question if Amanda feels the same way, she becomes increasingly flustered and insists these thoughts must end now! The moment is interrupted by a knock at the door. A frantic Dan is on the search for Drew and is relieved to find him safe and sound. Dan insists he’s been looking everywhere for him, convinced something had happened to him again. Drew moves off with Dan, leaving Amanda to get herself a stiff drink. Belle arrives home with some art supplies, ready to paint Drew in the nude. Amanda drops her glass and it smashes on the floor. She is clearly rattled – but why is it getting to her so much?
Drew later returns to the house to pose for Belle’s artwork. Much to his embarrassment, Belle has purchased him a very brief garment made of leafs and twigs and as he is posing for Belle, Amanda passes the door way and spots Drew almost in the nude. She can’t help but stare – what a body! But she drags herself away from the pleasing sight – this is so wrong to be perving on Drew! Drew looks up and spots Amanda checking him out – their eyes lock for a moment and Amanda realises she’s been caught out! Drew later confronts her and Amanda continues to insist what he’s feeling is nothing more than a school boy crush. Amanda is defensive and Drew questions if she’s acting that way because she finds him attractive too. Amanda snaps, warning him not to mention this again. Drew moves off but it’s clear Amanda has feelings too – and it’s freaking her out!

Sally is doing all she can to offer her support to Brad, who has been to-ing and fro-ing from the hospital visiting Emily. Leah comments on whether Sally is coping – obviously seeing what Emily and Brad is going through is a reminder of what Sally and Flynn had to endure. Sally insists it has actually helped her deal with her own grief. Leah is pleased and moves off. Shortly after, Brad arrives. He’s downbeat because Emily is not well and things are clearly taking their toll on him. Brad doesn’t now how Emily stays so strong and as he talks about her with great affection, he struggles to hold back his tears. Brad feels guilty for dumping this on Sally but as she moves to wrap him in a big hug, his emotions take control and he finally breaks down. Brad slowly begins to calm down. Sally reassures him it’s better to let out his emotion than to keep it bottled up like she did. Brad is so grateful for her support. The moment is broken by the phone ringing. Sally moves to answer it but as she is given the news, her face falls. Brad’s heart sinks – he knows it’s Emily – and the news is not good…

Brad and Sally race into the hospital but when they see how despondent Rachel is, they know things are not looking positive. Brad moves inside the room and Emily’s face breaks out in a smile, both know what is coming but don’t want the mood to become morbid. As Emily begins talking of their honeymoon and children, Brad cottons on to the fact Emily needs to voice her fantasy of the life she knows she will now never have. Brad jokes along but in the doorway, Rachel watches on with tears streaming down her face. Her heart breaks - knowing what could have been for this couple so in love. Emily drifts off to sleep and Sally arrives to offer Brad some support. For some time Sally stays by his side, offering words of comfort and understanding. Unbeknownst to them both, Emily has awoken and sees Sally and Brad. She is comforted by the thought her husband will not be left alone to grieve. Brad moves off, leaving Sally and Emily alone. Emily confides that for the first time in a while she feels no pain. It’s resonance of Flynn’s words and it brings some comfort for Sally thinking of Flynn’s last moments. As Emily now struggles to hold back her tears, she pleas with Sally to take care of Brad. Sally doesn’t hesitate in her answer – of course she will. Emily gives Sally a letter to pass on to Brad to read once she is gone. Brad returns with Emily’s favorite poem. It’s a beautiful moment as Brad reads the poem to his wife but once again Rachel watches on from the distance, struggling to hold it together. She turns to moves away but when she sees Kim approaching, the floodgates opens and she breaks down in Kim’s arms. Meanwhile, back in the room, Brad and Emily are reminiscing of their first date. How memorable it was that they stayed up all night to watch the sunrise and from that moment they were inseparable. Emily suggests they relive the moment. Brad is reluctant at first, but gives in, determined to fulfill her last dying wish.
…And so Emily’s wish comes true as she snuggles close to Brad under a blanket, staring out across the ocean. She’s weak but at peace as she thanks Brad for everything. Brad soothes her as he watches Emily’s eyes close. As the sun begins to rise, he holds her tighter. As a tear streams down his cheek…he knows that his Emily is gone forever…
Alf and Cassie are at home when Macca arrives. Suddenly, the mood becomes awkward and Alf moves off to tend to baby Pippa. Cassie feels reluctant to go to Martha and Jack’s dinner party tonight because things will be so tense with both being in the same room and trying to keep their secret safe. Macca steals a kiss but Cassie pulls away, concerned Alf could bust them at any moment. Macca heads off, leaving Cassie increasingly worried that this whole situation is getting out of hand! Macca bumps into Martha down at the Diner. She can smell perfume on him and jokes about his hot new woman. Macca tenses, not knowing what to say but decides to join in the banter. Macca insists this woman is just perfect for him! Martha is happy for him and adds she is glad he didn’t come back to the Bay to stir trouble for Cassie - after all she is happy with Ric and things are just the way they should be. Colleen is eavesdropping and is intrigued by the new juicy gossip. But once Macca is alone, his face falls, knowing that’s he’s just dug his hole deeper. Meanwhile, Cassie is getting ready for the party and Alf makes a light comment about her overdoing the perfume. Cassie is dismissive and heads off before she becomes too flustered. As she moves off, Alf is becoming increasingly more suspicious…
Jack makes the last finishing touches to the dinner. He is really putting in the effort to make amends with Martha. Tasha, Robbie have arrived and the last to arrive are Macca and Cassie they seem to arrive together. Jack clocks the strange interaction and wonders if there’s more there than meets the eye. The dinner party continues but things turn difficult when conversation is steered to the topic of Macca’s new girlfriend. Macca is left no option but to describe this dream girl and although it goes unnoticed by the others, a troubled Jack is only too aware of who Macca is talking about! It’s getting late and Macca hangs around to help Jack clean up. Jack bites the bullet and admits he knows Macca and Cassie are together. Jack insists Martha will be livid when she finds out. Macca cuts in, insisting nobody has to know. Jack realises what Macca’s asking of him – will he tell Martha the truth?
Colleen pops round to visit Alf and comments on Macca’s new girlfriend – they could smell the perfume on him a mile away! Colleen is oblivious to the significance of what she’s just said but Alf’s expression darkens – his suspicions are increasing by the minute!
Brad is clutching Emily’s hand as the ambulance officers tend to her. He kisses her hand one last time, not wanting to let go, as her body is taken away. Brad is completely blank-faced – he knows she has gone to a better place but he is still in shock. Sally and Rachel are waiting at the hospital. Both are in tears as they moves over to Brad as he arrives. Brad finds comfort in their embrace but is not shedding any tears. Brad talks of peaceful Emily’s last moments were. He moves into Emily room, to gather up her belongings and once he is alone, tears stream down his cheek as he mourns for loss of his beautiful wife. Back at home, Sally, Rachel and Kim listen on as Brad reminisces about the good times with Emily. Brad decides to head out for a walk. The others comment on how well they think he’s coping but unbeknownst to them, Brad is struggling to make a difficult decision. He returns and thanks them all for their support – he couldn’t have got through it without them but he has decided to leave the Bay! Sally, Kim and especially Rachel are absolutely stunned by the sudden decision. Brad explains that by living there he will be reminded of Emily’s illness and the memories are too intense. Emily was more content knowing Brad had family and friends around him, so he agreed to move to the Bay but it was not his intention to ever stay. Nothing the others can say will change his mind and he moves off, leaving the others concerned he’s making a mistake.
Brad is sitting at the cliff top where Emily passed away, when Sally tentatively approaches. Sally mentions she understands why Brad has made the decision then hands over the letter Emily left for him, urging him to read it before he makes any decisions. Sally moves off, leaving Brad to hesitantly open the letter. In true Emily fashion, she expresses her thoughts that by now Brad has probably decided to leave the Bay to escape the memories. She predicts he feels he wants to stay but can’t because it’s too painful. Brad is overwhelmed, as he smiles wistfully – for even in her death, Emily is looking over him.
Cassie is talking to Ric on her mobile as Alf listens on, clocking the awkwardness of their conversation. Once Cassie finishes the call, Alf begins to question how the dinner party was and mentions how happy he is that Macca has found another woman. After all, it was everyone’s concern that Cassie might think about going back to him. Cassie becomes increasingly flustered and makes a quick excuse to leave. Alf is left even more curious. Macca finds Cassie up on the cliff top, deep in thought. Cassie is on edge and doesn’t want to be seen with him. She is sure Alf has his suspicions. Macca tries to reassure her there’s nothing to worry about but Cassie insists she can’t handle lying anymore and rushes off.
Colleen is busily cleaning Amanda’s house. She’s driving Amanda batty and much to Amanda’s relief, there is a knock at the door. Amanda welcomes Macca in and they moves off to another room– but Colleen is just around the corner listening to their every word. Macca confides in Amanda he is having an affair with Cassie. Amanda listens as Macca insists he can’t change is feelings despite her having a boyfriend. Amanda advises then he should stick with it. Colleen’s eyes light up, although she hasn’t heard mention of fact Macca is talking about Cassie, she is shocked Macca is seeing a woman who’s already spoken for!
Cassie enters the Diner, still lost in thought. There is a hive of activity following the announcement Robbie and Tasha are having a christening for baby Ella. As everyone gushes over the baby, Cassie moves over to join in. A random comment is made about Cassie and Ric being great parents one day. Cassie is mortified and her guilt becomes even stronger. Meanwhile, Colleen has popped round to visit Alf, or more importantly, to relay the gossip she’s just overheard about Macca’s new girlfriend. Alf’s ears prick up when Colleen mentions this new woman of his is actually spoken for! Colleen insists that Macca always was a dirty rotten scoundrel but Alf is concerned – his suspicions about Cassie and Macca are growing stronger.
Alf tracks down Macca at the beach and charges into interrogation mode. Macca is taken aback by the 20 questions but Alf is on a mission to get to the bottom of it all. Whilst Macca pretends to be oblivious, Alf insists he didn’t come down in the last shower and suggests that he and Cassie are seeing each other behind Ric’s back! Knowing he’s just been busted – Macca prepares for the worst as Alf demands to know what the flamin’ hell is going on!!
So a lot of action in the Bay this week anyway!

Rachel’s heart breaks as she tells her brother that Emily’s conditioned has worsened and her time is drawing to an end.
