From Digital SpyCraig Charles has been offered a new three-year contract with Coronation Street. The actor, who plays cab driver Lloyd Mullaney on the ITV1 soap, has been rewarded by chiefs after getting his life back on track over the past year. "I'm delighted. Corrie is a great place to work and there are some fantastic storylines being lined up for me," Craig revealed. "Life is good right now - I'm a very happy man." Charles was suspended from the programme in June 2006 when revelations about his drug and alcohol problems hit the tabloids. Following a successful stint in rehab, he returned to the show in early 2007, but was always kept on short-term contracts. A Street source told The People: "He has worked really hard and proved himself. There were no doubts about offering a longer contract." I am pleased by this

Good...I like Lloyd
I'm glad Corrie are sticking by Craig (unlike Jenny Moss in 1974,that really is one of my bugbears)

Really pleased about this - the scenes in the cab office between Lloyd, Eileen and Steve are often the best bits in Corrie.
He does need bigger storylines tho' (as does Eileen, as we all know).

In Bill Podmores autobiography, it mentions in there that the Granada staff tried to help Jennifer Moss with her drink problems but she didn`t want to be helped. It was because of her arrogance that they fired her.

I keep changing my mind about Craig Charles: I want it to work out, but I don't trust him to come up with the goods. When people like him screw it it spoils schedules, scripts and storylines for loads of other characters. Bruce Jones was given chances, but he became bitter, and wound up disgracing himself and getting the elbow.
Hopefully Craig has learnt from that, and will pull his socks up and continue the good work.

Fair play to Craig - he has proved himself trustworthy if Granada are willing to extend his contract. Just as long as 'Lloyd' and 'Dev' don`t become all 'pally pally' at the Christmas parties and disappear together to the gents for a while I`ll be happy. ;D Nick.. in a day or two I`ll drag out my book of Bill Podmores autobiography to scan you a few paragraphs what he has said about Jennifer Moss and Peter Adamson
