From Digital SpyCoronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd has revealed that he has no trouble turning on the waterworks. The actor, who plays villainous David Platt on the ITV1 soap, said he is much more comfortable crying for the cameras than when he first joined the cast in 2000. He told Star: "I had to cry on set yesterday. I find it really easy these days - it only takes me about a minute to start bawling. It used to take ten minutes, but now it only takes a matter of seconds." The 20-year-old has been filming scenes featuring his character in prison. Producers recently denied reports that David will be involved in a gay storyline.

Unlike a certain person who's no longer in it. LOL! Some can do it at the drop of a hat. Others think screwing their face up makes it convincing. Now if only he would stop overacting.

I suppose the overacting stems in a lot of ways from the OTT storylines. There aren't too many subtle interpretations of the stage direction 'David smashes up the street with a lump of wood'! He kind of had to go berserk on that one

LOL! But they need new writers if all they can write is 'David scowls'.

Patsy Whilst i both agree with the scowling comment and the fact it's a product of what the writers throw at him, to be fair there's lot's you haven't seen. IE finding out about the abortion, the scenes in prison, there's been alot lately where it's really been not overacting - so i think your being a bit one-sided, given you don't watch it (Except when Reet's on) and everything and only have half of one story.

If Reet's in it I flick through and also catch the end when I wait fir the credits so have seen scowl, smirk, scowl, smirk, goldfish impression.

As you say though you don't watch it regularly like the rest of us (No matter how bad Corrie can be), you just flick through, therefore you don't have a fully rounded view, it's just not the same.

Sean does have his uses then - that`s all he`s good for. Or maybe they used Paul Clayton ;D

I also said I catch it when I switch it off. I saw him push Wail down the stairs. I've seen him at the end of other eps too and his expressions match the spoiler pics. Scowl, smirk, goldfish. He used to be a cracking little actor. Now he has limited repertoire. Watch him with the sound off and you'll see.

Again blame the writers for the same old same old they give him. And my point still stands, watching bits at the end and here and there doesn't give you a full view to be fair. It's just more of the same bashing for the sake of bashing, as is often the case on this forum. The difference with being critical is, it's seeing the good and the bad, not just the bad. I don't pretend him or any of them are amazing actors, the best at the moment being Ms Keegan playing his on/off girlfriend. Example: if someone who does watch it regularly and often/all the time i wouldn't agree with them and state why of course, but I'd till respect their opinion as they are not just watching "a bit here, a bit there." And in all honestly, in that case it's no worse than Dev's wooden acting, Janice, Kelly Crabcake and Sean, to name a few. The difference is Jack can and does, but he's not going to get a chance with these one-dimensional storylines now is he?

He did a scene with Rita and Norris and scowled and did his goldfish impression in that. It's all he does and has been since those stupid Hillman cards. His appalling acting is not making me look at it and wonder what's going on because I know. He has gone from being a superb little actor to having a limited range of expressions and that is the point I am making. There are other actors in other shows who are bad too. To be a convincing baddie you need a gamut of emotions and expressions. Scowl, smirk, goldfish and the odd sob doesn't cut it. To play evil you need to not be obvious. This has been the problem in soaps for many years and includes Tracy Barlow 4 and Charlie Stubbs. They were just as bad which made them boring. A good actor can make even the worst script be a little enjoyable so you can't blame the writers for his portrayal.
