From The Mirror
Corrie favourite Maggie Jones is in hospital after being badly hurt in a fall at the hotel where she lives.
The 73-year-old actress - who plays grumbling pensioner Blanche Hunt - suffered shoulder and knee problems in the tumble.
Insiders say her injuries will keep her away from the Street for several weeks. Her scenes have been rewritten and others re-scheduled.
Horrified hotel staff helped the popular star - who has played Deirdre Barlow's battleaxe mum since 1974 - to her feet and at first she insisted she was okay.
Maggie even limped her way a couple of hundred yards from the hotel to the Granada studios to see medical staff there. But worried medics immediately sent her to accident and emergency where the injuries were found to be more serious than first thought.
She is now in a private hospital and on the way to recovery.
A Corrie source said: "Bless her, from the moment she was hurt all she was worried about was messing up the filming.
"That's the last thing on peoples' minds - all they want is for Maggie to get better."
Maggie, whose home is in London, stays at the luxury Marriott Manchester Albert and Victoria hotel, just around the corner from the Corrie set, when she is filming.
A source there said: "The staff in the hotel love her and treat her like a real queen. It was a shock when we heard she'd had a bad fall."
A Corrie spokeswoman said last night: "Doctors are hopeful Maggie could be back at work within two weeks which is fantastic news. She is loved by everyone."
I do hope she will be ok.
A fall is nasty at her age.
