From Digital SpyCoronation Street star Matt Crompton has thanked the soap's producers for saving his career. Crompton considered giving up acting to train as a bricklayer just before he was offered the role of bookie Dan Mason on the ITV1 show. "Corrie saved my career. It came along at just the right time. I'm still pinching myself even now," Matt told the Daily Star Sunday. "It's mad to think that just a few weeks before I got the part I was going to give it all up. But I was being realistic. There was no money coming in and I had to do something. "I started looking into retraining and I'd picked up a bit of work on a building site, so I was thinking about doing something along those lines." "Great roles in a show like Corrie don't come along too often," he added. "And Dan is a great one." Matt has previously appeared as PC Sam Harker on The Bill.

Doesn't mean it's been saved. Casting directors may not want him when he goes.

Sucking up to the producers don`t necessarily mean a prolonged stay in Corrie. Just ask Bruce Jones lol ;D

I can see what he means though - to win a role in one of the nations top programmes must be a compliment to anyone's career. After The Bill and a stint in Brookside we didnt hear from him for a while.
Yes it doesnt mean he will have a long term career but he has a better chance after winning a part in Corrie.

I agree Jez - also nice to see someone level-headed enough to realize that not all actors are guaranteed work, and quite able to consider another career path.
I wonder how many of 'em are so far up their own backsides, they would consider it beneath them to get a 'real' job if times get tough?
