From Digital SpyCoronation Street star Emma Edmondson has claimed that the soap's fans are "traumatised" by recent cast changes. The actress, who plays Mel Morton, spoke following the departures of Street favourites like Vera Duckworth (Liz Dawn), Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) and Cilla Battersby-Brown (Wendi Peters). "There have been great losses and, for many people, watching it has been very traumatic," Emma told the Daily Star Sunday. "To be honest, it's been very traumatic for me." Rachael Elizabeth, better known as WPC Abi Sharpe on the soap, added that chiefs are hoping to fill the gaps by introducing characters who will be equally memorable. "The producers are bringing in a new generation of actors, especially strong women," she explained. "Tina McIntyre, played by Michelle Keegan, is an example of one of the strong new female characters." I wouldn't be traumatised by the exodus of her and her family. !!

I'm sort of getting used to them now..maybe if they give them a decent storyline it will give them a chance to show what they are capable of

These bits make me laugh:
Most of the characters these days aren't memorable in any soap because there's too many eps and they're not developed properly due to them constantly focusing on the same ones. And those ones people get so sick of they can't wait to see the back of.
As opposed to making once strong women weak? Or does she mean strong women as in bitches rather than STRONG women as it used to be?

LOL! That made me laugh too. its a tv show - how can fans be "traumatised" by the departure of fictional characters. OK you might be sad or annoyed that a favourite is leaving. It was sad to see Vera leave but I couldnt care less about Cilla or Sarah going.
I do agree that Tina is an excellent character and a strong woman like Karen was.

Well they certainly won't be too traumatised when she goes that's for sure.
