Remember Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt, aka Weatherfield Adonis Nick Tilsley - he of the most sensational six-pack in Soapland? The same Adam Rickitt who quit the soap to pursue an ill-judged career in pop (we hear his Hi-NRG debut ‘I Breathe Again’ is still a floor filler in certain Eastern European discos), before turning to politics (ah well, he’s nothing if not versatile)?
Now word reaches us that Adam – who hoped to secure a Tory seat at the next General Election – faces career ruin after being caught shoplifting in New Zealand. The 29-year-old actor, who’s currently starring in long-running Kiwi soap Shortland Street, was arrested after walking out of a supermarket in Auckland with a block of cheese, a bottle of HP sauce and a jar of coffee.
Adam now expects to appear in court and was in tears as he apologised for his actions. "I recently found out some very upsetting news. I was feeling helpless to deal with it because of the distance,” he sniffed. "I was so stressed out that without thinking during my weekly shop I failed to pay at the checkout. I can't apologise enough for what was a very embarrassing and uncharacteristic moment of stupidity." There, there, Adam… we think we can find it in our hearts to forgive you. Just so long as you promise not to release any more records
