From DSEastEnders actor Steve McFadden was rushed to hospital last week for an emergency arm operation following an accident on set. McFadden, who has played Phil Mitchell since 1990, shattered his hand after falling down a staircase. The surgery involved placing metal pins in his hand and closing the wound with 30 stitches. Scriptwriters have written the injury into the storyline so as to avoid disruption to filming schedules. The 49-year-old, who missed two days' filming after the fall, is quoted by The Sun as saying: "I'm feeling much better." A source added: "Steve had an accident on set — but he's not prepared to start blaming the bosses. "He had the operation and was back two days later. He's a proper geezer and just wants to get stuck into work." Health and Safety officers are now said to be investigating at the home of the BBC soap, Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire. Earlier this year, Samantha Janus (Ronnie Mitchell) fractured her shoulder at her home as she was rushing to leave for work, while in 2006, Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell) sprained her ankle on set as she collected her breakfast. That sounds painful.....poor old Mr Potato Head.

What a clumsy bunch they all are!
I remember when Lynne Slater was hopping round on crutches because Elaine Lordan fell down drunk and hurt her back or legs, or something.
Phil is such a miserable gruff bleeder - it won't be difficult to hide his injury, he always looks in pain. If he has a bandage on it can be covered by his shirt sleeve, and he hardly uses his hands anyway, so who will even notice?
