Cilla makes Corrie DVD comeback

Ex-Coronation Street actress Wendi Peters has agreed to make a return to the ITV soap for a one-off DVD.

The 40-year-old, who quit her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown last year, has agreed to appear in the South Africa-set special.

Her on-screen children, Chesney (Sam Aston) and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), will also fly out for filming.

A source at the soap told The Sun: "The Battersby-Browns look a little lost without their mean matriarch Cilla.

"Fiz and Chesney are much-loved characters but without Cilla being the evil witch to their Hansel and Gretel, they've fallen a bit flat. The storylines are being kept top secret but Cilla has moved away from Las Vegas and is now working at a casino in Sun City."

Rumours suggest that Cilla has already dug her talons into another new man. The source continued: "This new man makes Les Battersby look like the catch of the century. Fiz and Ches are in for a proper shock."

They added: "Cilla's wardrobe will be to die for. Literally. After seeing her new look, Ches might want to be an orphan again."

Filming in South Africa is due to begin next month.

Only two Coronation Street specials have previously been released. The Rover Returns! in 1999 heralded the comeback of Bet Gilroy and Reg Holdsworth, while in 2000, Viva Las Vegas! followed Jack and Vera Duckworth (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn) on their holiday to Sin City.

Looks like Wendi Peters hasn't found any other work since leaving Corrie, and she's keen to keep Cilla alive.

I used to have the Viva Las Vegas video years ago, but I dunno where it is now. It featured a cameo appearance by Ray Langton working as a waiter, or something - and provided some nostalgia for Jack and Vera.

The honeymoon was, Pearly, and the QE2 cruise was the first video in 1995. So Kris Green or whoever wrote the original article he got it from is a twat. Although DS ought to know better.

I have the Viva Las Vegas too and remember Ray didn't believe a word Vera said about Deirdre so claimed he was gay. Funny that wasn't mentioned when he returned and they said he'd been living in Holland all this time so they can't be considered canon.

Yes it was on for a week at 10pm in November 1999. The original News at Ten was axed earlier that year.

I knew it was on before the video whereas the QE2 was the other way round and they never screened VLV.

Didn't this come out originally as a video only, and then when everyone had been out and bought it, wasn't it shown on telly.
Or am I thinking of something else. ??

Yes but the video is about 75 mins and the TV version 50 so it was the edited highlights. People moaned and Granada got into trouble. I didn't see the TV version because I had the video but my mum did, having never been bothered about the release. LOL!

I remember when they showed it on TV. They cut loads out. Why they couldnt show the whole thing I dont know.
