I'm going to watch it again a second time on BBC3 in a couple of minutes as I missed a few minutes of it, but overall it wasn't quite as good as I thought it was going to be. It wasn't a complete letdown and there were some brilliant moments in it, but overall I was left feeling rather cheated the way it all worked out so neatly...
Rose got her alternative Doctor. Mickey and Martha joined Torchwood. Donna lost her memory of the Doctor, but still survived and returned to her family. Sarah-Jane returned to Luke.
It was all so neat and tidy though and there were no big unresolved issues for the Christmas special. I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.

Yep. I thought it was clichéd, padded and basically crap. Last week's was better but there were still too many characters in it. This week's was worse with the addition of Mickey and bloody Jackie. It really was a RTD ego trip with all the characters he created (bar SJS and K9 but he did create the SJSA). It was his proper swansong so he decided to celebrate himself. I can guess these specials will be stand alone. So many scenes were just so pointless as they added nothing to the plot. Davros started off okay but went OTT like John Simm's Sam Tyler Master did last year. People used to complain about Terry Molloy's portrayal but he was better. He's also a nice bloke even though he strangled me in 2001. LOL! Michael Wisher is the best. This didn't even have the teeth blacked out properly. None of it made sense. Who the hell was really in charge? What was the point of Davros as all? When did he get back in his original chair from the eggcup and regain his hand which turned into metal fingernails?
Roll on Steven Moffatt! His Big Finish (before I stopped buying them as there were far too many) were excellent, as were those by Mark Gatiss. They are true fans and know what fans like. RTD wrote it for himself. Maybe under new management we'll get multi-Doctor stories AND all this last of he Time Lords crap will be changed as the Tardis can't function without Gallifrey.

We had absolutley no idea what was going on....just a load of flash effects with no substance
How can Donna's mum and grandad not tell her about what happened..she is going to see all over the papers and on the news about the Daleks taking over the earth (again, yawn) and the earth being moved and then brought back again..its bound to jog her memory....we groaned as soon as we saw jackie and mickey.....for Gods sake leave them be...and why did jackie and Rose have to go back to the alternative universe but not Mickey?..did I miss something?
Is Catherine Tate leaving after only one series then?

My feelings exactly Nick.
I did sort of enjoy it, but it was a complete mess, with everything (including the kitchen sink) being thrown into the mix.

Sounds like it. As her memory is completely wiped I can't see how they can have her return. So does this mean a new companion ??

Jamie and Zoe had their memories wiped bar their first adventure with the Doctor. Didn't stop Jamie coming back with Patrick Troughton in 1985.

Thats true Pats...I hope they aren't going to have a different companion for each series..I like a feeling of continuity myself

Well Rose and her appalling family stayed two series. Pity they didn't leave it as that. I really hope Steven Moffatt gets the show back to how it used to be. No families and NO lurve.

Yes Catherine Tate is leaving. I think that was always the plan anyway for her to only stay for one series. She was refreshing and a good companion I thought. She was better than Martha anyway and a friend rather than a love interest for the Doctor. I'll miss her and I'd love to see her return to the series one day as a guest - far more so than Rose or Martha. I'm also upset that she got such a raw deal when it came to endings as the others all got happy ever afters, while she didn't.
Also I agree with Nick about Donna's memory being triggered. I mean it was so crap I felt and such a cop out. I think it would have been better for her to be killed off rather than to give her such a stupid ending. And the mad Dalek's thing about "one will still die"... was that about Donna or not I wonder? Also I agree about the cast changes every series being a bit annoying. I'd like the same Doctor and same companion(s) for at least two series in a row, if thats not too much to ask.
The family aspect does have its positives and its negatives though. I mean in all fairness it is realistic that a companions family would be worried when their son/daughter/sibling disappeared off on their travels with the Doctor. Plus they do make it more touching and show an ordinary persons perspective of whats happening on Earth. But then they can also get in the way and prove a bit annoying at times.
I wonder what the specials will be like and if there will be companions or if the Doctor will be travelling by himself.

They managed without family for 26 years they can for another. But then in those days they went to other planets and through time and didn't constantly end up on modern day Earth so they could be involved.
All that with Donna and the Doctor being thrown together and someone manipulating reminded me of the Doctor and Ace.
