From Media Guardian:
Matrix actor Laurence Fishburne to take CSI lead role Leigh Holmwood guardian.co.uk, Tuesday August 19 2008 09:18 BST
The Matrix actor Laurence Fishburne has been confirmed as the new lead in CBS's hit US drama CSI, replacing William Petersen.
Fishburne, who received an Emmy for US TV drama Miss Evers' Boys, will first be seen on screen in the forthcoming ninth series, which is due to air in the US from October.
He will play a former pathologist turned college lecturer who focuses on why people turn violent - including traits he is disturbed to find in himself.
The character joins the Las Vegas Crime Lab as a Level 1 crime scene investigator after assisting in a murder case.
His debut is expected to be seen in the UK next year on Channel Five, which holds the British terrestrial rights, and then on Living, which shares the multichannel rights.
Even though Petersen, who has been with the procedural crime drama since it launched in 2000, will no longer be seen on screen, he will remain executive producer of the CBS show.
Fellow CSI executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar said Fishburne topped their "dream list".
"He is a powerful and intense actor, with an incredible range," they said in a joint statement.
The success of CSI has spawned spin-offs CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.
