Corrie wins clutch of top TV awards
Coronation Street has won a clutch of television honours and left its soap rivals in the shade.
The popular show was named Best Soap in the TVQuick awards in front of a star studded audience at The Dorchester hotel in central London.
Tina O'Brien, who plays Sarah Platt in Corrie, picked up the Best Soap Actress honour while young Samuel Aston, who plays neglected child Chesney Brown, was named Best Soap Newcomer.
The love triangle involving Tina's character, Sarah, and Todd and Karl, which gripped the nation earlier this year, as Todd battled with his homosexuality, was named Best Soap Storyline.
Television's latest crop of young actresses added a touch of glamour to the night with stars from the BBC's Casualty drama, Sarah Manners and Leanne Wilson, wearing tops with plunging necklines.
Ex-Brookside actress turned pop singer Jennifer Ellison wore the look of the moment - a revealing baby doll dress.
Other celebrities who graced the red carpet included Lynda Bellingham, Des O'Connor, presenter Claire Sweeney and Big Brother winner Nadia.
EastEnders may have lost out on the main soap award but Shane Richie, who won last year's best newcomer award, was named Best Soap Actor for his portrayal of the hapless Alfie Moon.
Geordie duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly impressed television audiences again this year and scooped the Best Entertainment Show for Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Best Reality TV Show for I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! - both for the second year running.
In the Best Loved Drama category, The Bill beat Bad Girls, which has won the award for the last four years.
