From Yahoo News:
ER confirms Edwards' return By WENN world entertainment news - 1 hour 1 minute ago
Producers of hit medical drama ER have confirmed Anthony Edwards will be returning to the TV show for a guest appearance. Edwards - one of the original stars of the NBC series - was written out in May 2002, with his character Dr Mark Greene dying from a brain tumour.
But the actor is now set to film new scenes for the upcoming 15th season of ER, which is due to air next year.
It is thought Edwards' appearance will be contained within flashback sequences.
Another original cast member set to make a comeback in the final season is Noah Wyle, who will star in four episodes.
Edwards' return has fuelled speculation that George Clooney will also sign on for a cameo role. He left the regular cast in 1999 to pursue his movie career full time, returning in May 2000 for a guest slot to mark the departure of actress Julianna Margulies from the show after six seasons.

From what I read in the press, George Clooney wasn't interested.

Didn't ER make his name? I hate stars who snub whatever got them noticed because they're also snubbing the loyal fans. They become too high and mighty.
