Soap writer David Lane is now writing for The Bill. He had been writing for Coronation Street for a number of years and prior to that wrote for Emmerdale. His most famous Emmerdale episode would be the Tina Dingle jilting Luke McAllister although he wrote many good episodes for both soaps.
Below is the last episode to date he has written for Coronation Street and the first episode he has written for The Bill.
CORONATION STREET
ITV1 Network Friday 4 February 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Cilla sells Schmeichel
Cilla (Wendi Peters) is livid as she finds Schmeichel has chewed her favourite boots and in revenge she sells her son’s dog to her friend for £100. She then blatantly lies to Chesney (Sam Aston) and tells him that Schmeichel must have ran away. A frantic Chesney searches for his beloved dog along with the help of Kirk (Andrew Whyment) and Les (Bruce Jones). Cilla tries to take everybody’s mind off the dog but how long will she be able to keep her secret?
Sally (Sally Whittaker) has a growing sense of guilt about her affair with Ian (Philip Bretherton), which is made worse by Justine (Sophie James) questioning the relationship she has with her boss. Sally is convinced that Justine knows about the affair but once again Ian reassures her that Justine is completely oblivious to what’s going on. He can see that the guilt of the affair is getting to Sally and offers to give her some time to get used to things. But Sally is well aware that the job and the affair come as a package so will she be prepared to give any of it up?
Tommy (Thomas Craig) is enjoying seeing Martin (Sean Wilson) suffer as David (Jack P Shepherd) refuses to speak to him. Tommy is pleased that somebody else shares his disgust at Martin and Katy’s relationship and is happy to see Martin unhappy. Martin manages to keep his cool with Tommy, even when he purposefully tries to cause a fight with him. At least Martin manages to salvage his relationship with daughter Sarah (Tina O’Brien) as they share an emotional moment at baby Billy’s grave.
Elsewhere, Charlie (Bill Ward) is unhappy about Ciaran (Keith Duffy) going to the gym with Shelley (Sally Lindsay) and Sarah celebrates her 18th birthday.
This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by David Lane, produced by Tony Wood and directed by Ian Bevitt. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. It is a Granada Television production for ITV1.

THE BILL
ITV1 Network Wednesday 16 February 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PC Andrea Dunbar’s (Natalie J Robb) ‘Blue Murder’ copy deadline is looming and failure means certain exposure for the undercover journalist. She is paired with PC Gabriel Kent (Todd Carty) on his old vigilante stomping ground, the Cole Lane Estate, and Andrea seizes the opportunity to pump PCSO Laura Bryant (Melanie Kilburn) about Gabriel’s past on the estate. The pattern in his behaviour leads her to deduce that Gabriel has a connection with the Sun Hill sniper.
When Andrea informs Sergeant Dale Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) of her hunch, he confides that the clue to nailing Gabriel could lie in his family history. He drops the bombshell that he believes Sergeant June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) is the crazed cop’s mother. Later, Gabriel senses that Andrea is on to him and threatens her with violence. Is Andrea set to be next in Gabriel’s long line of victims?
Meanwhile, DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) prepares to leave his wife and move in with Andrea. As if Andrea hasn’t got enough on her plate, she is spotted by Neil talking to her editor and he later accuses her of being the station leak. Will Andrea reveal the even worse truth behind her posting at Sun Hill?
Elsewhere, DC Jim Carver (Mark Wingett) is confident his marriage is back on track. How wrong could he be? When June finds a red rose taped to her locker she automatically assumes it’s from PC Roger Valentine (John Bowler) rather than from her own husband.
PC Leela Kapoor (Seema Bowri) and PC Amber Johannsen (Myfanwy Waring) take their response level driving tests at Hendon with PC Dan Casper (Chris Jarvis), a hunky copper from another station. Amber knocks over a dog on a practice run, and flounders in her attempts to flirt with the female instructor. Will she drown her sorrows at the bottom of a bottle?
THE BILL is a Thames Television production & a direct commission by ITV. This episode was written by David Lane, directed by Mike Cocker and produced by Susan Breen.
