From DSThe homes used in Channel 4 soap Brookside have been put up for auction. The 13 properties on Brookside Close, West Derby were purchased by Mersey Television in 1982 and continued to be used until the show was axed in 2003. In 2005 the buildings were bought by developers, but the houses have been left empty since then and require repair work. The auction is scheduled to take place on December 17 and the collective properties are expected to reach between £550,000 and £600,000. Brookside featured early acting roles for Anna Friel, Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston. It also included famous storylines such as consensual incest and the first pre-watershed lesbian kiss on British TV. I remember it was put up for sale early 2007, they were expecting to ger £250.000 per property. !!

Yesterday Dean revealed he was hoping to get a loan for £600,000 to buy the 13 houses at auction next week.

I think the only way they could bring it back is with completely new characters...start from scratch as it were.
Brookie used to be one of my favourite soaps. ( In it's earlier days ) I still have a vivid memory of Sinbad and that turkey on a lead. ;D

In it's early days it was great. Then EE came along and copied. I agree with Jez. It's had its day. Bringing Crossroads back failed because it wasn't. This wouldn't be either.

And I think the failure of the new Crossroads should act as a warning to anyone thinking about bringing back any axed soaps.

Indeed. I think people are also sick of them. It's hard enough to keep up now without new ones also umpteen days a week.

Brookside was great in its early days...and because it never got much press coverage the storylines were never leaked..i was shocked when Nurse Kate Moses was shot and when Tony Dixon was killed by Jimmy Corkhill

From BBC Online:
Page last updated at 13:20 GMT, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 Brookside Close sold for £735,000 The infamous Brookside cul-de-sac that once saw its residents murdered, taken hostage and buried under a patio has sold for £735,000 at auction.
An unnamed Liverpool-based buyer has snapped up all 13 properties of Brookside Close, in Liverpool's West Derby estate.
The Channel 4 soap was axed five years ago after a run of more than two decades.
A spokesman for auctioneer Allsop said the buyer was "local to Liverpool".
Brookside Close was originally bought by Mersey Television in 1982 to try to cover the costs of the show and to provide a more realistic set than some of their rival soaps.
Six of the houses were on-screen as sets and the remaining seven were used to house the administration, post-production, canteen, make-up and technical facilities for cast and crew.
The 13 leasehold houses were bought in 2005 by developers, who refurbished all of them.
But they have remained vacant since and the street requires some work, Allsop said.
