Corrie's Tony is no Richard Hillman
Coronation Street's Gray O'Brien has insisted his character Tony Gordon is not the new Richard Hillman.
Gail Platt's psychotic husband Richard - played by Brian Capron - went on a mad killing spree in a bid to control The Street businesses and his family and even tried to murder the entire Platt family and himself by drowning them in the canal.
But Gray said: "I don't think he's anything like Richard Hillman. Tony's not out to destroy everyone, Tony's out for himself and to look after his own interests, and they are being a successful businessman and marrying the woman he loves. That's his agenda."
He continued: "He doesn't like people saying no or getting in his way, so he moves them aside. His mission is to be hugely successful, retire at an early age with the woman of his dreams. It's very simple for Tony. He won't let people get in his way, and he always thinks everyone can be bought off or silenced."
But the soap star also revealed Tony won't let anyone stop him getting what he wants.
Gray said: "He's said so many times, he didn't get where he is by being a nice guy. He didn't have a silver spoon in his mouth, and he worked for everything he's got. He's not going to let a few people to blow that for him."
Tony has just returned form honeymoon after murdering Liam Connor, and is now playing mind games with Liam's widow Maria, who she accuses him of killing her husband.

Er but isn't that precisely what Richard did? Wanted to be successful, marry the woman he loves and provide for his family, disposing of anyone in his way.
