The cast of Coronation Street are reportedly up in arms today following the news that they are to lose their on-set catering facility.
The privately-owned food wagon has served free hot drinks and snacks on set throughout the day during filming hours for several years.
However, the service has now been removed by Granada executives in favour of the busy staff canteen.
One senior cast member reportedly told the Daily Star: "Everyone is spitting blood about this because it’s a needless and pathetic way to save a few bob. This facility has always been considered as part of the employment package.
"We work long hours and feel we’re being singled out for cutbacks that won’t save much."
Meanwhile, a source told The Mirror: "There's been cutback after cutback and just when we thought they couldn't cut any more we hear the caterers face the chop. People are really angry."
A spokesperson for the soap, defended the move, stating: "Corrie is being brought into line with other ITV dramas where people pay for food."
They also insisted that catering facilities will be provided for location shoots.
I can't see why they can't keep the lunch wagon and pay for their food.
Nearly every week there seems to be a perk removed.....they'll be charging them to use the Loo next.!
