From DSEmmerdale have confirmed that they have no plans to invite Ben Freeman back to the soap. The actor, who played mechanic Scott Windsor for nine years, was dropped from the ITV1 show in 2007 after being charged with rape in Barbados. He was finally cleared of any wrongdoing after facing trial in October last year. In an interview this week, Freeman claimed that he was likely to make a comeback to the programme. However, an ITV spokeswoman has now told the Sunday Mirror that there are "absolutely no plans" to bring him back. An insider added: "Storylines are already in place until the summer and there is no mention of Scott Windsor. If I was a betting man I would not put money on the likelihood of Ben coming back." Freeman met with the show's chiefs in November to discuss a possible return. Two weeks ago, a spokesperson said that a comeback for the actor had not been ruled out for the future. A representative for Freeman commented: "I am bemused. We were led to believe the door was still open."

That's daft because there aren't any for autumn/winter so why rule him out?

A shame really as the ratings would`ve been great if Scott and Viv came back at the same time. They need a man over at the garage....not some young girl older lady as mechanics. We see too much of the Dingles as it is without adding them in the garage scenes too.

That's why this article makes no sense. It's basically saying there's no plans for him to come back in SUMMER storylines but no mention of autumn, winter or even next spring. Therefore if he was completely ruled out to ever return, why just mention summer?

And lets face it, any scriptwriter worth their pay could come up with a storyline re-introducing him........I could. ;D

I think thats very unfair..he did the decent thing by Emmerdale by leaving temporarily so as not to disrupt filming scedules incase he went to court knowing he was innocent on the understanding he would return...he has been found innocent and now they as good as say 'you're fired' The scriptwriters can easliy re-write the script if someone is taken ill or is fired unexpectedly..why can't they re-write for Ben..?? Thats just not cricket

Viv is due out of prison in the Autumn, an ideal time to re-introduce Scott I would have thought.
Plus the fact there is unfinished business over the garage. ( Eli and Debbie's little con trick ) It sounds to me as if the scriptwriters are too lazy to think of storylines for him.

Thi is why I keep saying the quote makes no sense. He's only ruled out for summer storylines but no mention of the latter half of the year or even next. It seems a bit of an exaggerated non-story because no one's said he will NEVER come back.

Its a pity he was so stupid in the first place, a man his age bedding a 16 year old is a bit much IMO. Even if he did nothing wrong.

As do they all. If he wasn't famous she wouldn't have gone after him, like a lot of Mick Jagger's women.

Some of these women know they're onto a good thing. John Cleese's '27 year old' made me laugh. Using him like that to clearly further her own career then denied it, blaming the press before going back to the same press almost begging him to give her another chance.
