From DSEmmerdale star Joseph Gilgun is to star in a movie alongside Michael Caine, reports Manchester Evening News. Gilgun, who plays Eli Dingle in the ITV1 soap, has been allowed time off to star in British crime thriller Harry Brown. A spokesperson for the actor said: "Emmerdale has managed to work the storylines around to give him the time off to film on Harry Brown, which Joseph is thrilled about." It is also reported that the 24-year-old turned down a movie role alongside Nicolas Cage because of a clash with Emmerdale's filming schedule. Gilgun has previously appeared in Coronation Street and Shane Meadows film This Is England. Oh b****r, when I first read this I thought he was leaving Emmerdale

Remember the days they wouldn't let cast do anything so they quit?

Yes Pats. Sadly though some producers only let certain cast members on some soaps do anything different. I remember in Bill Podmore`s Corrie autobiography, Chris Quintin wanted to do other roles (panto I think) but Bill wouldn`t let him as he was still contracted out and had some major storylines. But Chris did them anyway and Bill was furious so he sent R Brian off to Quata for 6 months and wrote him out. I believe that was when Gail had the affair with Ian Latimer.

I noticed. A certain pointless twerp in Corrie gets preferential treatment. These days, with money so tight left, right and centre, if they want to do something else they should give up their soap salary and/or job.

Yes Pats. I`ve also noticed that he isn`t hogging the screen as much as he used to either. And for that I`m very grateful ;D
