As you may know, I stopped watching Corrie a few weeks ago due to lack of interest, but since then I've had to undergo an enforced change of working shift pattern, and TBH I'm not bothering to record any soaps at all now!
Woohoo!
Not missing any of 'em, but will keep up via spoilers, and possibly record if something really exciting looks imminent.
Will continue to post, but more likely in 'Other TV' or general stuff.
A damn sight easier than trying to give up the dreaded weed! ;D

My interest is waning too BC...hense the 2 week marathon sessions I`m having lately. I don`t think I could give them up entirely though. You`re a braver person than I am ;D

I gave up Emmerdale about 3 years ago (maybe more..i can't remember)
I have threatened to give up Corrie..but never do....I always like to think that however ridiculous it gets sometimes it can only get better

Indeed it in, blackcatz! I gave up Corrie almost 4 years ago and Emmerdale 3 and never looked back. Still watch EE but I'm sure there'll come a point I stop that too. I remember Jez saying I'd go back to Corrie but never did. It's easy once you stop then you find something else to fill the time.

I admire you BC for having the willpower to resist watching. Sadly, I haven't. ;D

Lack of interest in easier than willpower, Sooty. LOL!

Funnily enough, the only one I don't mind watching occasionally on a Friday (my first evening off) is Emmerdale, which is so excruciatingly bad, it's actually fun, and I don't care about keeping up with it's storylines - it's just very silly entertainment.
This is only because it's the only soap that my beloved watches - she was never really 'into' either Corrie or EE.
I watched EE up until a few years ago, but gave up when Den returned after being shot by a bunch of daffs.
Emm used to be the only soap I watched (again, years ago), but that stopped being credible once the Dingles started multiplying like rabbits, 'panto' acting became the norm, and clownish humour (sic) was taking over.
Come to think of it, all of the above make me think Brian Blessed was just put on this earth to play a part in Emm! ;D

Last night I cancelled the timer on the video. I don't even have any interest in Reet since it's all uninspiring drivel. So from now on I'm not even taping it to see if she's in it. My freedom from all things Corrie is complete!

Well, since returning from holiday, have only watched Emm and Corrie (part one) on Friday while having dinner, and haven't bothered to do any recording or reruns (via iplayer).
Haven't missed them at all; in fact since shift change at work, I watch very little TV Mon-Thurs, and only tend to record factual programmes (love Grand Designs) or films.

;D Isn't it a wonderful feeling, blackcatz? 1995 when I went to the Czech Republic for 10 days I had a whole list of stuff for my dad to tape (a lot from satellite when we had decent archive channels). Now all he has to do is the omnibus of EE. If telly suddenly ended tomorrow I wouldn't miss it. Reality drivel aimed at the lowest common denominator, cheap crap, wall to wall soaps, dumbed down news (though BBC isn't as bad as ITV - yet!), many docs which patronise by copying the US method. I'd rather listen to the radio.

At the risk of sounding self-satisfied, I totally agree - it is a wonderful feeling, and very liberating. We now have much more selective viewing, and time to do other things.

It gets to the point with soaps you've seen it all before and can predict what's going to happen Things to keep viewers gripped sent them round the bend out of boredom. It may help if they didn't release every last detail so it ruins it. How can anyone be 'gripped' when they've read the papers and mags? What's there to talk about when it's already been discussed before airing? Anyway enjoy your soap-free time! ;D
