ITV unveils new Thursday drama schedule
Wednesday, July 8 2009, 14:15 BST
By Kris Green, Soaps Editor
ITV has revealed a new-look drama schedule for Thursday nights.
From July 23, Coronation Street's usual Wednesday evening edition will shift to 8.30pm on Thursday, while Emmerdale's one-hour episode on Tuesday will be canned for a Thursday double-bill at 7pm and 8pm.
A 30-minute instalment of Emmerdale will still transmit on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.
Speaking of the move, an ITV spokesperson said: "Coronation Street will make a move from Wednesday to Thursday nights on ITV1 from July 23 as part of a change to the schedule to reflect ITV's contracts for the Champions League, FA Cup and England internationals, which will see ITV1's live football broadcast on Wednesday evenings."
They added: "In addition, two separate episodes of Emmerdale will be broadcast on Thursdays from the same date. We're delighted that Thursday evenings on ITV1 will be a great showcase for soap from Weatherfield and The Woolpack."
Meanwhile, The Bill's new post-watershed episodes will begin airing on Thursdays at 9pm. For the first week of the revamp only, a second episode will transmit on Friday, July 24.
ITV's Coronation Street and Emmerdale output will remain the same, with 180 minutes of the rural soap and 150 minutes of Manchester action airing across five days.

8pm on Thurs for Emmerdale seems odd - but not half as odd as it will be moving Corrie from its regular Wed slot to Thursday.
Cut back the eps of them both they want to.

LOL
Do you know I haven't spoken to one person who likes Sean and thinks that Corrie is great at the moment
In my Corrie the first 30 years book (from 1990) Julie Goodyear says that she couldn't bear it if the quality went down and it turned into a joke like Crossroads did and if it did she would leave..well she left in 1995..probably about 3 years too early..but she did the right thing

Crossroads really turned into a joke when it was twice a week and they had Gabrielle Drake. LOL! Considering they had a fraction of the budget of Corrie when it was 5x, they did well. Crossroads 2001 was the joke. LOL! I blame the money men. Everything's all greed now above sense.

well we get 120 hours of Coro a week. No wonder we fall farther behind. Also they cut little bits out to put ads in. When I was in the UK a few years ago I watched some episodes. then months later when they were on in NZ little scenes were left out only 30 seconds here and a minute there etc but enough to annoy me LOL
