DH Season 6 Spoilers/rumours

Season 6 of Desperate Housewives begins filming Monday 13th July (tomorrow). Casting scripts (some don't come to pass) have been circulating for a couple of weeks now.

ABC have already confirmed the schedule for the first two episodes. Season 6 will premiere in the US on 27th September 2009 and episode 6x02 will air on the 4th October.

• After writing Julie out at the end of Season 4, show creator Marc Cherry said that he planned to bring Julie back at some point. Well current reports suggest that Andrea Bowen will reprise the role of Julie Mayer in the Season 6 premiere. ABC at this time, will only confirm that she is in one episode however rumours abound that Julie is back as a main character throughout Season 6. Further rumours suggest that she will be entangled with the new family, therefore somehow caught up in the Season 6 mystery?
  
  
• Richard Burgi will appear in a number of episodes of Season 6 in the re-occurring role of Karl Mayer. Karl's expected to begin an affair with Bree.
  
  
• ABC released the season's general synopses at their 2009-2010 press conference on 19th May 2009:

• Actress Maiara Walsh is joining the regular cast in the role of Ana Solis. Also Drea de Matteo (of 'Sopranos' fame) joins the regular cast as Angie Vitale, the matriach of the new family at the centre of Season 6's mystery.
  
  
• New housewife Angie Vitale (Drea de Matteo) moves to Wisteria Lane with her husband Nick played by Jeffrey Nordling, and 19 year old son. The son (whose name seems to conflict in different reports) will be played by Beau Mirchoff.

  Based on the arrival script for [Drea] de Matteo's character, she's for certain a fish out of water, having traded the noise and grime of New York City for a serene picket-fenced life on Wisteria Lane. ...it appears that the son will attempt to strike a spark with one of the neighborhood girls.   Sources tell me September's Desperate Housewives premiere is set to feature a Susan Mayer wedding... or the preparations for one at least (who knows if she'll actually go through with the "I do"s). Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that Susan wasn't the lady Mike married in the season finale. As every Desperate fan knows, the show is no stranger to flashbacks, divorces or second chances.

"I could never do that," [Marc] Cherry says. "The network would never let me." But he adds, "On TV you can always have a miscarriage." I'm way behind in collecting spoilers, however I will try and add some this week. Desperate Housewives Season 6 begins in the US in a week's time.

Oh it is being stated that Andrew van der Kamp will not be a regular this season. This appears to be the actor's choice (apparently), however he will still be in quite a few episodes. The children playing MJ and Juanita, will become regular cast members (as opposed to being billed as "also starring")

Karl and Bree are to have an affair, which will climax in episode 10 with a shocking cliffhanger and probably invole Orson finding out - which is expected to be the last episode to air in the US in 2009. January 2010 will resolve the cliffhanger with episode 11.

It is being reported that the name of the new family has been changed. I think the new name is Bolan but I will have to check as I read it a while back. It is to do with the fact that they originally wanted an Italian family, however when they began casting, the male actors they chose, didn't fit necessarily into that profile. We will just have to wait and see.

Rumours abounded this summer that Orson Hodge would be leaving, they now state that he is not. So again we will have to wait and see.

Julie Mayer looks like she will be part of the mystery this season, with the end of the first episode seeing something nasty happening to Julie. She is expected to survive, but what actually happens to her could be a key plotline.

One of the Savo twins is missing from the official Main Cast List. It is not known at this stage if this accident or deliberate.

INTERVIEW: "DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES" EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BOB DAILY ON OLD CLIFFHANGERS, NEW NEIGHBORS

The closing moments of "Desperate Housewives" last season found Mike Delfino (James Denton) at the altar with a bride that could have been either long-love Susan (Teri Hatcher) or Katherine (Dana Delaney). In the first minute of this Sunday's sixth season premiere, viewers will find out the identity of the bride and, true to form with the ABC soap, there are more surprises to be had throughout the entire hour and season. For the lowdown on what surprises are in store, executive producer Bob Daily shared how the writers flip-flopped on who the mystery bride would be, constructed a new family to plug into the mix and how killing off Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) should send a message to viewers on future life-threatening situations for the cast.

Jim Halterman: Without giving away who Mike (James Denton) chooses to be his bride, was it a tough decision as to who would be his wife and who would be the scorned woman?

Bob Daily: I will tell you that when we left the writers' room last season we thought it was going to be one person and within the first week after our return we changed our minds. How's that for tough?

JH: Why did you change your mind?

BD: Honestly, it was two things. One, it was based on the anecdotal fan reaction after the season finale of season five aired and I think all the writers had very similar experiences with fans. The other reason was just what would be the most fun story going forward?

JH: It is very easy to assume that any family that comes to the neighborhood is going to be some kind of trouble and the Bolen family seems to be no exception. What is the thought process for constructing this new family?

BD: That one was driven in large part by casting because when we discovered we could get Drea de Matteo (who plays Angie Bolen) we thought, "Oh my gosh!" Based on what she's played in the past, she's certainly the last woman you'd expect to move into Wisteria Lane and we thought that would be a lot of fun to play that contrast so that's where we started from.

JH: The Bolen son, Danny (Beau Mirchoff) looks like trouble from the start.

BD: He's trouble, isn't he? There's trouble but lots of surprises along the way, some of which will be happening in the first third of the season but lots we'll be dropping at the end of the year.

JH: Lynette is not happy about her unexpected twin pregnancy and is even going to keep it a secret for as long as she can. Is this going to be a comedic or dramatic arc for Felicity Huffman?

BD: Well, I will tell you that episode two is very dramatic and then it becomes comic so we're trying to get a little of both. That storyline starts out very dramatic and then there's a funny, comic twist. We're in the middle of writing episode eight now and it all seems to be paying off.

JH: When you put Bree (Marcia Cross) and Karl (Richard Burgi) together, did you realize you were going to get some nice sparks there with the actors?

BD: We've always loved Richard Burgi. He started off season one as Susan's ex-husband and he's just one of those guys that anytime you bring him back you know it's going to be fun. The crew loves him so when we started talking about Bree having an affair he just jumped to mind as the last guy you'd expect for her to be with so there's a lot of fun in playing that contrast.

JH: Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker) and Carlos (Richard Antonio Chavira) have taken in his teenage niece, who essentially seems to be a younger version of Gaby. Is that what you were going for?

BD: Exactly what we're going for in some ways. I think last year we played the fun of what if Gaby had two daughters who were so unlike her and this year this is what it will be like to have someone in the household who is Gaby at age 17. Will she be able to help her or will they always be fighting and what will that relationship be like?

JH: I know Neal McDonough's character came to an end last season but the actor was so great. Any chance the actor might come back in some other capacity?

BD: We'd love to bring him back but it's a bit tricky because we made him a homicidal crazy man but if you have any good ideas to bring him back, let us know because we love Neal and thought he was great.

JH: He was already evil so maybe the nice twin shows up for a change.

BD: [Laughs.] Exactly. You don't see the nice twin show up as often.

JH: I know the gay couple Bob (Tuc Watkins) and Lee (Kevin Rahm) is going to be adopting a child this year. Wasn't that supposed to happen last season?

BD: We talked about it and we always have this problem with the men of Wisteria Lane. There are six women that we have to take care of every week and it's really tough to give the men their own storylines and as funny as I think that would be I think we'll do it someday.

JH: I thought the show handled Nicollette Sheridan leaving last year in a great way from a story perspective. How are you prepared for other actors to leave since the show is getting older?

BD: I think we felt with Nicollette that we hated to see her go but I always sort of felt that you put these characters in jeopardy and then the audience thinks, "They aren't really going to kill them because they're the stars of the show," or that sort of jeopardy becomes false so it was very valuable for us to say to the audience, "We actually can kill them." It might give us a little more oomph in the future but we don't want to ever say never. I think there are certain people who are pretty safe but going forward, who knows. Going forward if people don't want to be on the show anymore that's certainly a possibility.

JH: Beau Bridges scored an Emmy nomination last year for that great standalone episode last season. Any others like that coming up?

BD: We would love to. That was our 100th episode so it was kind of a special thing but it worked so well and was so much fun to write that I think we would love to try to find something like that. Episode two is not like that but it's all connected around one unified event so we're going to try to do more things like that. As the show heads into later seasons it's fun to break the format and do something a little different.

BTW, I hope Mike goes ahead and marries Katherine - Susan just irritates the hell out of me, and seems to have become much more selfish as time goes on. On top of which, I think Dana Delaney is a far more convincing actress.

Sorry I don't know. After the last series on channel 4 I thought they said it would be back next year.

I'm afraid I'm a Teri Hatcher fan from her Lois & Clark days. Despite the fact she says she likes working on DH, I don't think she does that much, other than the money, because I think her acting does come across as if she is bored sometimes on DH. There again I think the writing for Susan is not that good really compared to some of the others so I would be bored.

I love Dana Delany and I really like the complexities of her character. I guess we all know Mike and Susan will end up together in the end, however I am hoping that he will marry Katherine because that would make things interesting for a while. I fear however that they intended it to be Katherine but have changed their minds because fans want Mike and Susan back together now. I really hope that isn't the case though, because I think it could get kinda boring with Mike and Susan back together again. As it is I thought they put them together too soon before. Part of the main thing going on with their characters was will they won't they get together. Once you take that away there isn't a lot else to their characters.

So like you I am really hoping for Katherine and Mike to get married, but maybe for different reasons LOL. Across the pond they will find out tomorrow.

As to being selfish, I think they are all outrageously so, with the possible exception of Katherine.

After not committing to a return date for Season 6, Channel 4 confirmed earlier this month that Desperate Housewives will return to their channel on Wednesday 27th January 2010 at 10pm.

So far the US have had 13 episodes with a month break in December after episode 10.

If you don't like spoilers then don't read any further. I don't think there are any real spoilers included here but there are a significant number of teasers. Things I can confirm about the new season from various sources such as Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, Zap2it.com, TV Guide, various spoiler sites, ABC's official site and from watching some episodes online :

• Jessie Metcalfe willbe back as John Rowland for two episodes early in the season.
  
• We will find out in the opening scene who Mike Marries
  
• The woman Mike doesn't marry has a nervous breakdown. Look out for them to make a general nuisance of themselves for at least the first 10 episodes.
  
• Who Mike marries was not the original intentions of the writers. Fan pressure influenced the outcome of this story.
  
• This year's mystery is slightly different. There are various elements to it. In fact I'm enjoying it far more than last season's as it seems to be offering more surprises and isn't quite so predictable.
  
• The season kicks off with a new family, the Bolan's moving to Wisteria Lane consisting of Mum, Angie, Dad Nick and son Danny. The mother is a tough nut. It appears they are looking for a fresh start and the son is a troubled soul. However as the season progresses are they actually on the run from something? There are several mysteries to them still unfolding with no real answers yet state-side.
  
• Meanwhile the main mystery kicks off with the cliffhanger of episode one when an old favourite gets strangled and left for dead. I won't say if they die or not or who it is, just in case there are some people who still don't know and there is some element of surprise. Does this mean that Wisteria Lane can expect to see a serial strangler on the loose or is this a one off? Are the new family tied into this or something else going on - who knows?
  
• Juanita Solis seems to age with every episode - no doubt because they have an older actress playing the role and she is growing up and outward far quicker than would be ideal. By the middle of Season 6 Juanita is celebrating her 7th birthday while M.J. is only 6 years old still. This goes against the continuity of the show because if you remember rightly MJ was born in Season 4 while Juanita was born during the 5 year year jump between seasons 4-5, so at the very least she has to be 6 months younger than MJ.
  
• The writers seem to have forgotten about Evan Mayer even though Karl Mayer will feature prominantly throughout the first half of Season 6.
  
• Orson and Bree's marriage is not a happy one
  
• Lynette is not looking forward to the birth of her upcoming twins to begin with, but some traumatic events later on may change her mind.
  
• After Juanita is excluded from school Gaby tries her hand at home-schooling the little brat with some hilarious results. Poor Gaby.
  
• While Susan or Katherine have turned into a bunny boiler making the other's life hell, Gaby and Lynette will be involved in their own fued for a couple of episodes mid-season.
  
• Mrs McClusky finds love!
  
• Andrew has been reduced to a guest star - due to the actor's choice to scale down his role. He will first be seen around episode 4. He features very briefly again a few episodes later, however as of episode 13 has done little.
  
• Dylan Mayfair comes back for the Christmas episode (episode 10) to try and sort ouut thhe mess Susan and Katherine find themselves in.
  
• The new kids on the block are Ana Solis and Danny Bolan. Danny has his eye on Julie Mayer while Ana will later on move on to Danny.
  
• I can never remember which Scavo twin is which but one is now away travelling Europe or at college or something. The other three Scavo children are at home but not seen a lot. Lynette is working for Carlos while Tom has gone back to college himself.
  
• Julie Mayer returns to Wisteria Lane for most of the first 13 episodes. However her role on the show is much reduced, however her character does have some significance to the storylines.
  
• This year's season disaster will take place in the Christmas episode - episode 10 and will result in a controversial killing of at times a key character.
  
• Episode 11 of the new series is called "If" and sees various characters think about how their lives could be different if they had chosen different paths. For example Susan imagines ignoring Karl's affairs throughout their marriage, and imagines what her life would be like had she stayed married to him and Mike had just been the plumber.
