At the National TV Awards - about time they won too (the last time being in 2004)
Have to say I was so shocked tho as Corrie rarely do well in Best Soap categories - but what a way to start off their 50th year!!!!

Not sure - think it could have been due to financial problems and also they wanted to move the venue and revamp the format.

Wow what a shocker, I`m absolutely gobsmacked. I`m pleased obviously, but OMG I honestly thought EastEnders had it in the bag. EE was more deserving.
But if the truth be told, it really should have been Emmerdales turn. I hope they`ll win next year.

Have Emmerdale ever won? They were sorely overlooked under Steve Frost when it was REALLY good.

Emmerdale have never won Most Popular Soap at the NTA's or the BSA for that matter. They did win a Bafta but that is voted by a panel.
Yes well done to Craig Gazey as well - it was so nice of him to dedicate his award to Maggie.

Thought not. It's usually a two horse race. Maybe next year Corrie and EE can be left out.

It would be interesting to see who would win if it was just Hollyoaks, Doctors and Emmerdale - Doctors wouldnt stand a chance but I think Hollyoaks could win because of the amount of young people who watch. Id love to see Emmerdale get it tho.

Emmerdale deserve it more than corrie and eastenders put together.
For a start, it's the only one i didn't miss an episode of last year without catching up as soon as i could, overall it was just better, corrie and eastenders got really boring at points, emmerdale did get a little boring, but not as bad as the others. It'll never win as things stand though, people generally watch corrie and eastenders more as they get more publicity.

I suppose if you think about it..if something is down to a public vote and EE and Corrie get more viewers that Emmerdale,then proportionally there will be more votes for EE & Corrie because they have more viewers...so on and so forth

Yep. Also storylines in Corrie and EE tend to be similar. There was a time it was Corrie and Emmerdale (the wives of both Ashleys getting pregnant after sleeping with someone else springs to mind). When I watched Emmerdale they were robbed a lot. I didn't watch EE but it was significantly better than the drivel Corrie was churning out. Yet it either never got a look in with awards or had the odd consolation by judges at the Soapies.

There would be no one more thrilled than me if Emmerdale won a best soap award this year. They have been overlooked for far too long.
When the next soap award appears, I`m going to vote for Emmerdale
