Said the scripts aren't as funny as they were and doesn't know if it's down to the age of the writers knowing how to write for people his age. That's all he said about Corrie and seemed reluctant to even say that much. Shame!

I think there's a limit to how much humour they should/should not use. Too much and it would turn into a comedy.
Personally I think they've got it about right. Steve and Eileen get great lines, and of course so does Blanche. Not everyone has to be a 'funny' character - it would be totally unrealistic, and pretty soon get very tedious.
Take Emmerdale as an example on how not to do humour - they've turned so many characters into 'oddballs', and it just doesn't work - they're hugely annoying, and not remotely funny

Agreed. Natural comedy lines are so much better instead of stupidity/slapstick which is why I prefer the older Corrie.
Emmerdale were good. It's the Kath Beedles influence like when comedy was completely eliminated from Corrie under Kieran Roberts (as it was when he produced Emmerdale).
I'm not sure I entirely agree with John about the age of the writers. There's a fair few old enough to be able to do it. I think the problem is these morons come in and haven't a clue how to write for the characters full stop. Youngsters it's easy - have them sleep around. Over 40 needs intelligence so they just don't bother. There's also a problem of rubbish storylines. How can something plain stupid be hilarious except in their own heads? That also applies to Emmerdale.

Just remember not to mention Corrie if you go to the stage door. Talk Blakes 7 or DW instead. That should be safe. LOL!

You could always mention A Clockwork Orange. I was gobsmacked when I saw that and Fred Elliot was in it.

I can remember seeing John Savident in a very early episode of the Bill. He played a foreign (I think it was Greek) video shop owner who kept porn under his counter lol ;D

Well went to the play last night...
'Hobsons choice' at the Devonshire Park Theatre,Eastbourne
it was excellent...after 5 minutes you had forgotten John Savident was ever in Corrie, special mention must go to the chap playing Willy Mossop,he was very good
all in all a jolly good night...although the theatre itself could have done with a bit of a dust
