I was surprised to hear she was a vegetarian. I wonder if she'd have been as fit if she wasn't a veggie ?? I reckon by 90 you are well due a nice rest without turning in to work...I'll miss her though.  |

Maybe her recent health worries made her decision, especially after what happened to Maggie Jones.

It says in todays Mirror that Betty isn't retiring and that she went to the new producer because she was worried about the story..he reassured her that her job is safe

I suppose the logical step would be to have her retire from the pub and then just make appearances as and when she wants in the Rovers with Emily etc..

That's what they planned with Bill Tarmey only he went and quit anyway. I think it is her health.

Apparently the story has been denied and she has no plans to retire!!

Sorry just saw Nick posted that earlier about the story being denied! At 90 I thought for sure the story was true but perhaps she would be lonely if she didnt work at Corrie - and she probabaly does no more than a day or so a week filming.

Well she'd certainly be entitled to retire, and TBH I have to say it would seem more realistic - I mean, how many barmaids do we know who are 90 and still doing the cooking?

Mm as much as I like Betty it is getting silly to have us believe she would still be working behind a bar,peeling carrots & spuds etc and serving up hotpots
Better and more realistic to have her retire from the pub and just making appearances when she feels up to it

The Sun and NotW sadly tend to be more accurate than anything else. How many times have we seen something reported then another paper denies it but it turns out to be right? Why would she be worried about her job if she was going nowhere? After all, the article said SHE quit, not was fired. You'd only speak to your boss if it said you were out the door and hadn't been told.
