From DSCoronation Street producers have confirmed that the show's opening titles will be overhauled for the first time in eight years ready for the switch to high definition later this month. Details as to the nature of the new title sequence have yet to be released but programme makers Granada this afternoon announced that the new look will showcase from May 31. A spokesperson for the soap told DS: "Coronation Street will be having new opening titles shot in HD, further details of which will be announced soon." It will be interesting to see what they come up with. There again, as we don't have HD, I don't suppose I'll notice a difference.

lets hope they put right the ridiculous first shot above the street with no viaduct next to the Rovers, then the next shot shows the viaduct springing up from nowhere (which it did anyway about 8 years ago)

How old are the current credits? Were they for the 40th or were they 2002? They do seem to update the credits every 8-10 years or so, so I could see this coming.
The set that were introduced in 1976 with the famous ginger cat falling asleep lasted 15 years with only a couple of small changes to the end shot to reflect the new set in 1982. Infact when I was about 3 or 4 that is my first memory of Corrie as I knew it was time for bed when the cat went to sleep lol!

Something I read said the latest ones were done in 2002, specially for when widescreen tv came in.

Here we are in all their glory !!
I think they are b***** awful, very fuzzy. If thats HD, why is it so blurry. And if thats HD I am glad I don't have it. !!
The tune ain't bad though. At least they kept a cat. ;D ;D

Seems odd to record them in HD and have them all blurry..and they have rearranged the theme slightly

Yay the ginger cat! That was my first memory of Corrie way back, sometime between 1984-86 when my mum used to say it was time for bed cos the cat was going to sleep! lol! I remember not long afterwards I was then allowed to stay up to watch Corrie!
