Do you know I was having a think yesterday about good old Crossroads.......
People used to critisize it over hastily thought up plots that, after a few weeks, were totally forgotten about and never mentioned again ..like David Hunter becoming addicted to gambling for 6 weeks or so....... ...what about Michelles 'real' son Alex and Hayleys son Christian..hastily thought up and then forgotten and never mentioned again
Crossroads was also critisized for characters dissapearing for weeks and sometimes months on end...Corrie is always doing that now...where is Aunty Pam?
Crossroads was always critisized for ludicrous plots and storylines...anyone remember Amy Turtle being accused of being a Russian spy??....to me that is no worse than this ridiculous John Stape/Charlotte/Colin Fishwick storyline...running around with a body in a carpet like some Whitehall farce !!
I also remember Crossroads was cut down from 5 episodes a week to 4 and finally to 3 to inprove the quality...and it did..just as they got it right it was axed!!
I think Corrie producers want to take stock and get a grip
I remember Julie Goodyear saying in an interview in 1989 that she would be devastated if Corrie went downhill and ended up a joke like Crossroads did and if that happenend she would leave...I think she left at just about the right time.

If there was a like button I'd click it. I couldn't agree more. Corrie has its fair share of wobbly sets and fluffed lines but, like BBC dramas, it was considered 'quality' rather than cheap a la Crossroads, Dr Who, Blakes 7 etc which got the stick.
We've been on at them for years to reduce the number of eps. That's the first job Michael Grade should have done. EE is ludicrous but not AS ludicrous and they made the right decision staying at 4 a week. Should be less though.
