I thought I would start this thread following on from our comments about Emmerdale axing nearly all of it's long running characters..at the moment there are only 2 characters that were there for the plane crash,Alan and Eric (Kelly will make it three when she returns) and thats only just over 17 years ago..... Axing Viv and Terry was a Big big mistake and the biggest mistake of all was killing off Joe Sugden...I'm sure Frazer would have returned to the series at some point I think it would be interesting to have Matt & Dolly back in the area, their son Sam would be about 30 or so now..he could have bought the original Emmerdale Farm (They could build a replica) had the subsidence repaired and run the farm... I would also like to see Caroline Bates return..she and Alan made a great double act and it would be interesting to find out what has happened to Nick Bates (He must be out of prison by now)...that could also lead to a return of Kathy. I also liked the character of Lynn Whiteley she was outwardly a bitch but really she was just lonely and bitter about the death of her husband. I feel that there are too many Dingles at the mo and we could do with losing a couple (which 2,I wouldn't like to say..but Chas gets on my nerves a bit and I used to like Marlon, but Heaven knows he's miserable now )

Frazer always said at conventions there was no point killing Joe off. He was just there in Spain minding his own business.
It's funny how in soapland people move away, close to people, yet are never mentioend again! Matt was part of the family and they welcomed Dolly too. Didn't they divorce though? Be good to see Matt and Sam maybe.

If I remember rightly when Dolly left she went to join Matt in Norfolk
I agree with Frazer, after all they haven't killed Annie off have they? and Joe could have come back for Jacks funeral

Matt/Dolly/Sam for sure.... I`d love to see them back. I`d like to see Paul Lambert and his partner Jonny back too. When Paul first joined, I disliked him immensley. But when he and Jonny moved to Australia, I was genuinly sorry to see them both go. I`d like to see Steph back too....she really livened up the Dales lol. If Jasmine could come back for a few weeks, it would boost the viewers.

Good post Nick.
I agree with most of what you've said, and i certainly agree about thinning out the Dingles and not keeping them so 'centre stage'. I think Chas and Marlon are the ones I'd chose to get rid of too. They're both just bloody irritating now.
I'd add Kim and Zoe to your list of favoured 'returnees', but thinking logically there's no real reason for them to return.
Agree about Matt and Dolly, and what about Sandie Merrick?

Yes definatley Zoe..I remember when she left it was said she was only taking a temporary break
Kim would be good too..but she would have to tone her antics down..she has been responsible for a few deaths !!..mind you I think most people have in Emmerdale,Walford & Weatherfield.
Sandie Merrick is a very good choice
I would also like to see Scott Windsor back, not that I particulally liked him but I felt Ben Freeman was unfairly sacked over that false rape allegation.
Lady Tara was a good character too
And The Reynolds (Did Angie die..I can't remember)

I have always wanted to see Kim and Zoe return, also ( if you could do a bit of resurrection ) Jack, Joe and Matthew King. I was always a big fan of scruffy old Shadders.
Nick, Angie died in a car crash, her and Cain were lovers (and partners in crime) and she died after a robbery when the car overturned.

Oh yeah - Lady Tara. I liked her. Nick - I`d like to see Scott back again too...and for the same reasons you listed. He could rebuild the shop/cafe/post office. Not sure if that`s what Kelly is going to do when she returns. She seems like the kind of person who doesn`t want to get her hands dirty.

The characters I would like to see leave are: Ali Ruby Rishi

Ali yes!!! I don`t mind Ruby, and I quite like Rishi. I didn`t like him teaming up with Charity to oust the Kings though. He can be quite ruthless when he wants to be.

The actress playing Ruby IMO doesn't sound convincing when she delivers her lines
Ali can go..her voice could strip pine

re: Ruby. I can`t figure out whether her accent is from Liverpool or Ireland. When she was in Bad Girls, I liked her accent. Now not so much.

Ali would be top of my list too.
I think the expression 'bulldog chewing a wasp' was coined specially for her - and is she possibly the most miserable/stroppy mare ever to step foot in Soapland?

My choice for the most miserable/stoppy characters would be Amy and Victoria, they always seem to have to be moaning about something.

Amy gets on my last nerve. She makes misery into an art form - and all of her own making. Her Mother Kerry ticks me off too.

I always thought of Kelly as 'the brow' because of the creases on her forehead.

For me, Kim Tate and Steph Stokes (played surprisingly very well by Lorraine Chase).
