From DS Colin Baker has been elected honorary president of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society. Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor, follows in the footsteps of fellow Doctor Who actors Jon Pertwee and Nicholas Courtney, who both led the fan group for many years. The actor tweeted that he is pleased to represent the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, saying: "Was voted DWAS president today - following JP (MR Charisma) [Pertwee] and The Brig (MR Wonderful) [Courtney] - greatly honoured and touched. Thanks DWAS!!." He later added: "To all of you who have tweeted congrats on my DWAS elevation - many thanks. It's an honour I will wear with pride." The Doctor Who Appreciation Society, which first formed in the 1970s, publishes a monthly magazine and organises fan conventions. Baker starred in Doctor Who from 1984 to 1986, but was famously sacked by the BBC in an attempt to refresh the series. He would return for the 1993 one-off special 'Dimensions in Time' and later reprised the role of the Sixth Doctor for numerous Big Finish audio adventures. Baker has said that he doesn't mind being forever linked with Doctor Who.

I read that on Twitter. Many of us were amazed he and Sylvester McCoy were overlooked after Jon Pertwee died for Nick Courtney. I gave up my subscription of DWAS a couple of years ago. Got rubbish since the magazine went A5 size.
