The trouble is so often they try and blame the tv for doing wrong. The idea to kill must be in their heads to start with.

I agree Sooty..but having someone bashed with a hammer being classed as family viewing doesn't really help

Much of the criticism aimed at TV is justified. Soaps are the most watched programmes and many characters set bad examples. How many get away with committing crimes? John Stape was sodding Superman, totally invincible, even after falling off a roof. How many get away with just unplanned pregnancy instead of a STD? How many get drunk then have no ill-effects, take drugs, bully? The list is endless. This affects the impressionable so yes, they ARE to blame regardless of whether someone's unhinged or not. Many do it just because they saw it on TV and aren't.

+10 Pats. What I find so hypercritical is that the EE bosses sacked Loosey Beale last year for being drunk, yet portrayed Lauren as a drunk in the show.
I suspect that the young lad doesn`t even watch soaps regularly, and tried the "I saw it on Corrie, and thought I`d try it" excuse to get his sentence reduced. The soaps on his computer probably didn`t even have the violent scenes on them

Well not quite the same because Fishface is an 'issue'. Pity she's so rotten and unconvincing at it, doing her fish impression as shock. She's too much like KF in looks and lack of talent it's scary! But others have been kept on for far worse antics.
It's no good parents moaning about scenes in soaps they disapprove of. It's THEIR responsibility to make sure kiddos are doing something else. Ever since Brookside burst onto the scene, soaps changed beyond recognition. EE has always been a wider-viewed version of Brookside and never pretended to be cosy viewing. Corrie, on the other hand, is not what it was and is as far removed from Tony Warren's creation as Emmerdale is from its roots. It's all ratings grabbers, sensationalism (in your face started with Kieran Roberts) and parents let their kids sit there and watch. Saying he saw it is an excuse, yes, but there's nothing to say (since they showed John Stape get away with it) it's not true.
