Unpleasant stuff - but the state of Phil, an established alkie and now an amateur junkie cannot be an attractive prospect. How many young/daft/impressionable/desperate people can have watched those scenes and thought 'Wow! I want to be just like that!'. It's got to be seen as a deterrent of sorts. Steve Mcfadden is not really my cup of tea as an actor, but he does play drunk very well. Now he's playing junkie drunk very well. Good on him for going for it, and giving the scenes his full effort, to show the revolting truth.

Jeez...some people seem to have nothing better to do than to complain about a fictional show

Natalie is still sticking her oar in I see. I can`t help but wonder if she`s jealous she wasn`t giving that storyline instead of giving her a lesbian storyline which didn`t give anywhere near the impact of Phils storyline.

Some people don't like to deal with reality. It happens, it's hardly breaking news nowadays. If Eastenders didn't tackle issues like this, then no one would watch.

I think some people have their head in the sand. Probably would if someone close to them ended up a junkie. Shouldn't watch if they don't like reality. After all, there's far worse EE have done.

I agree with Clarabell on all three of her points. A couple (of any combination of males and/or females) snuggling up in bed is not even a 'bedroom scene' anyway. Showing them shagging or fully nude is too strong for early evening, but cuddling up and a bit of kissing is fine. EE is not a kid's programme - so it's the responsiblility of the parents to monitor what the kids watch. When they start showing sex scenes during The Tweenies, then the do-gooders can complain. Meanwhile - if parents let the kids see EE then they need to be prepared to acknowledge what's happening on the screen; if they don't like it they don't have to watch it. There's far more violence, bitchiness, bullying, backstabbing and nastiness in EE than there is any kind of loving behaviour. It's that sort of thing that seeps gradually into the nation's subconscious.

Many of the comments point out the same issues in EE and how hypocritical the moaners are since they don't complain about the other things.
