Coronation Street will have a new sponsor next year as furniture retailer Harveys has decided to end its deal with the ITV1 soap.
Harveys has sponsored Coronation Street since 2007, but its branding will cease to accompany the show from January 2013, when the current contract comes to an end.
Harveys managing director Stephen Campbell told Media Week: "Over the last five years, Coronation Street has been a fantastic alignment for us, but we feel the time has come to look for something new."
He added: "Having contemplated long and hard about continuing with Coronation Street, we felt it would be a good time to do something different and we are currently considering a number of options."
ITV is now seeking a new Coronation Street sponsor to take over from next year.
ITV's group commercial sales director Simon Daglish commented: "Coronation Street remains one of the jewels in ITV's crown and this sponsorship package consistently delivers some of the highest audiences across any year, as well as outstanding additional value and exciting opportunities across multiple platforms.
"Harveys remains one of our largest advertisers and we look forward to continuing to work closely with them going forward."
Thank goodness. I absolutely hate those adverts....Bring back the chocolate street ;D

From DSCoronation Street has landed Compare The Market as its new sponsor. The ITV soap will pair with the price comparison site, known for its viral marketing creation Aleksandr Orlov and the spoof website Compare The Meerkat, for the next three years, ousting Harveys furniture. "We are delighted to be working with Compare The Market as a partner for Coronation Street," said Simon Daglish, Group Commercial Director of ITV. "This is a long-term commitment from both parties around two of the most exciting and loved brands in the UK, which we believe will become the benchmark for partnerships going forward." Paul Galligan, Managing Director of Compare The Market, added: "Coronation Street is one of Britain's most entertaining and best loved TV shows and so we are delighted to be partnering with such a prestigious programme. "We will be working closely with ITV to ensure this is a model partnership, utilising both on and off-air opportunities to take our brands to customers in new and exciting ways." The fully-comprehensive sponsorship package, negotiated by ITV Commercial and Newcast, ZenithOptimedia's sponsorship and content division, includes broadcast, online, mobile and licensing elements. I am so glad to see the back of those two 'Harvey' women...Meercats I can live with ;D
