Anyone else watching?
We don't have Sky (it's on Sky Atlantic), but I've watched the boxed set of Season 1, and now downloading/watching Season 2.
Was switched on to it by daughter Fran and her boyfriend.
It's absolutely brilliant if you enjoy fantasy fiction of the Lord of the Rings genre. BUT...definitely NOT for kids! A lot of gory stuff, nakedness, sex, violence, and quite scary in parts, but this is counterbalanced by some flashes of great humour.
That said, it's stunning to watch. Great production values, great scripts, amazing locations (Northern Ireland, Malta, Croatia and Iceland), and top-notch acting from everyone (lots of well-known faces and names, even playing minor roles).
Has already been nominated for (and won) many awards.
Really didn't expect it to be my sort of thing at all, but am now totally, totally hooked.
9/10 (some episodes 10/10)

...always knew Robert Sugden would come to a sticky end! ;D
Karl Davies had very small part in last night's episode of Game of Thrones - got too close and too friendly to one of the true villains in the show, gave a long-ish speech, and promptly had his head caved in.
On screen about 5 minutes in total.

We have recently borrowed the first series on DVD from lovefilm, and it was very enjoyable. My favourite characters are the obvious ones: Tyrion the very entertaining randy dwarf and Arya the tomboy. Never read any of the books myself, so it's all new material to me. It was all going well until it became supernatural which got up my nose a bit. Suddenly zombies and dragons appeared, and it moved the goal posts. There had been a suggestion of supernatural activity right at the start, but it was dismissed as a mistake, so I thought that was the end of it. Fantasy stuff is fine - LOTR, Harry Potter, Grimm, Twilight etc. all good stuff - because we know it's fantasy in advance; but with Game of Thrones I thought it was a historical/power struggle drama, and that the characters might have been swayed by superstition etc. but were otherwise sensible and realistic , but if there are going to be storylines with real dragons and magic etc. it might spoil things.

Stick with it Pearly - it IS mainly about the power struggles. Series One good, Series Two not quite as good (but one or two excellent episodes), Series Three brilliant! We bought the books, and I've just about caught up to where we are with the TV show. Am not going to read any more now until next series ends. You may have been mislead then about what sort of drama it was; I always knew what to expect and to me the best way to describe it would be 'Lord of the Rings for grownups'. As I mentioned before, I'm not normally a fantasy fan, which just goes to show how GOOD this is! Still 9/10 and 10/10 for me. My favourite wallpaper:-

I want to see this, I used to read a lot of fiction by the creator. I'm hoping one of the regular channels I get might pick it up soon. Sometimes if I'm traveling in the U.S. they will have HBO and I can catch up on series with an on demand feature, so long as I remember and the boyfriend doesn't hog it watching Top Gear on the BBC channel. :^)

I watched the first series on DVD, but since then I've been downloading it weekly from a couple of the pirate download sites. I'm guessing that now that series 3 is over, you can probably download complete series 1, 2 and 3, rather than having to search for individual episodes. Quality is superb - I suspect most have been recorded in HD. Let me know if you want more info.

We've made a start on the second series on DVD. It's pretty good: what a twisted little sicko that Joffrey is! And Theon Greyjoy is proving no better - it looks like he's turned into another Joffrey: a little bit of power, and he goes berserk! I'm enjoying it so far - but I hope it isn't going to be all warfare, or I'll lose interest quickly. I'd prefer it to focus on the relationships and loyalties, and a bit less blood and rape.

I don't want to get into downloading videos with my ISP connection. Thanks anyway. I'll see what might be on youtube or rental. Sometimes youtube content is blocked here, itv website videos usually are as well.

Looking forward to series 4 on Sky Atlantic tomorrow night! They are repeating the last ep of series 3 tonight, to let people catch up before the start of series 4.

Just watched a very good complete Season 3 recap - on YouTube, 'bout 15 minutes long.

Just watched a very good complete Season 3 recap - on YouTube, 'bout 15 minutes long. That's cheating! I suppose it was a speeded up slideshow of blood, mud and tits? A neat summary!

The start of the new series was pretty good. I still love Tyrion! Even in deadly serious mode his charm, wit and compassion shines through - let's hope they don't kill him off anytime soon. And Bron is hilarious, too. And now there are vengeful Martells on the scene - more bloodshed on the horizon, although I don't know why they had to have their first appearance as a pervy scene in the brothel. No doubt it is true to the books, but it just smacks of titillation.

'titillation' - (couldn't you think of a less descriptive word?) Loved Jamie's ironic handwave!

I have never seen it...not one episode. And I`ve only ever seen one episode of Breaking Bad on Netflix as I was curious about the hype.

I have never seen it...not one episode. And I`ve only ever seen one episode of Breaking Bad on Netflix as I was curious about the hype. Both Game Of Thrones and Breaking Bad are excellent tv series, but not for the faint-hearted! Both quite gory and unpleasant at times, but highly entertaining. I watched both the aforementioned series on rental discs in long chunks - which is quite hard going; if you were going to watch them, I'd suggest one ep at a time, to save your sanity.

DAMN! That was a great episode! Brilliant! But the main villain is now gone - his cold, camp cruelty was truly chilling. It makes me wonder what sort of a loony they'll dream up next!

According to daughter Fran, Jack Gleeson is going to give up acting now; he's been in the business since he was 10, and I guess working on GOT, and as such an iconic character, must have been pretty intense. Maybe he'll surface again some time in the future - genuinely talented for someone so young. Must have been a fantastic character to play tho' !!!

This week's ep was again brilliant. Excellent scenes from Tyrion's dungeon: firstly with Bron 'If I wanted witty, I'd marry YOU!' Then with Oberyn - pretty heart-breaking. It seems that Cersei has been an evil bitch all her life, and has been seeking to get rid of poor little Tyrion from day one. Brilliant acting from Tyrion - always noble.

Yes - tremendous stuff this week. Also good scenes with Arya and The Hound. This series (for me) has been exceptional because the quiet scenes have been as absorbing as the exciting ones. But all credit to everyone for maintaining such high standards - must now rank as my all-time favourite TV series. Btw - no episode next week due to Bank Holiday.

AAAAAAAARRGGHHHH!! Horrible stuff! Wasn't expecting that! Poor Oberyn - too flash, too cocky, playing to the gallery - stupid man Sansa seems to be getting the hang of things - not such a snivelling brat any more, and learning to lie and manipulate. Hope she doesn't make the mistake of actually TRUSTING Little Finger, as he will never change.

Yes - must admit had trouble getting off to sleep after that! Sorry to see Oberyn go tho' - great character. Things a bit different from books, but it doesn't affect the story much. Still damn good.

Pretty good. I didn't like the previous week's ep much - the siege at The Wall. I know those scenes are really clever and difficult to choreograph, etc, but I don't like battle scenes, it's boring. But the last ep was good. Glad Tyrion escaped - and I did feel very sorry for him when he found Shae in Tywin's bed. He deserved all he got!
