CORRIE’S Simon Gregson received a ribbing from his co-stars yesterday after reporting his car stolen – only to discover he’d just forgotten where he parked it.
The Coronation Street star, who plays chaos magnet Steve McDonald, was left scratching his head when his motor apparently vanished.
First, the father-of-two assumed the car had been towed away and called the pound.
But after workers denied taking the vehicle, Simon got the police involved.
When the car eventually turned up, the red-faced actor became the butt of jokes on the soap’s Manchester set.
Yesterday, Craig Charles — who plays Steve’s best mate and business partner Lloyd Mullaney in the ITV show — was one of the first to take the mickey out of his pal.
He shared Simon’s embarrassing memory lapse on Twitter, writing: “Life is good. Gregson thought he’d been towed.
"The pound didn’t have it. Reported it stolen to police. Turns out he forgot where he parked it.”
On Corrie, Steve and Lloyd run a cab firm and are often seen driving battered burgundy Mazdas.
But in real life, Simon — who has been in Coronation Street since 1989 — drives a Jaguar and collects classic cars.
Last night, a Corrie source told TV Biz: “Simon feels like a prize plonker but he’s just glad he’s got his car back!”
This does not surprise me in the slightest, I've often wondered how close Simon and 'Steve' were in real life. ;D
